Too much pressure?

I have a very tight budget for my wedding, so i figured I could make my floral bouquets and centerpieces myself. They seem pretty easy to make. My mom says it would be too much pressure. what do you think?

Too much pressure?
you can easily do this without any drama or pressure.

if using fresh flowers: talk with local florists regarding what will be in season, how much she/he can supply and the cost.

you can then design them in advance and buy all the wires and vases necessary in advance. So all you'll have to do is have them delivered (or pick them up) and arrange them. This can be very therapeutic and help you relax instead of being stressful..

but then you risk having a time management issue, and chances of the flowers not being available when you need them, or not being "open" yet etc.

if you are using silk, plastic, dried flowers: you can buy a sample of what you are thinking off and design it at home until you are happy. then buy the lot in bulk and get to work. you can do this months in advance, and with good storage you won't have any dramas come the wedding.

my friend designed all her own centrepieces and the church flowers. we (the bridesmaids) helped her on the morning of the wedding by putting them all in vases and arranging them. it was very relaxed and fun, and they looked beautiful.

xx
Reply:The bouquets are pretty simple, as long as you simply tie some stems together--that's a nice look anyway. If you feel you can handle it, then I say go for it. One suggestion though on the centerpieces--if you've never done it before, you might want to take a class at a craft store in flower arranging.
Reply:No pressure at all...in fact it may ease some financial pressure. I made centerpieces, bouquets, and boutiniers for my wedding. It took me about 3 hours to make everything and in total it only cost me about $75...way cheaper that going to a florist.
Reply:Well, depending on how much time you have, I would do it. I am on a tight budget also and its a six month engagement. We did the bouquets, corsages, and boutoniers. We did them all in one weekend and bought all the flowers at Hobby Lobby when there were 40% off. It ended up being 1/3 of the price, someone else was going to do it. My other suggestions is eBay has yesss-i-do seller who isn't too expensive and I was going to user her but ended up doing my own. I was also going to do the centerpieces but I found some awesome ones at Wal-Mart craft for cheap when they were closing all of our flower departments.

Good Luck and Best Wishes! b2b 12-29
Reply:I think making your own center peices is an excellent way to cut cost and as long as you get things together well enough in advance it shouldnt be that stressful. I am also planning a wedding very soon and here are some simple examples I found that are inexpensive.

Both would be pretty for a spring wedding. Possibly use daisy or other wild flowers that are inexpensive.

beach wedding

fall wedding

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y257/ye...

possibly something similar for a seasonal wedding, maybe you could put candycanes somewhere too.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y257/ye...

And this is possibly the most simple and one of my favorites.

You just gather some river rocks and place then in a vase. You could gather some branchs and if you wanted a diffrent color other then the natural browns, you could buy spray paint the same color as your wedding colors ( prolly about 2$) and put those in place of the brown ones.

Well those are just somes ideas. Candles are always create a lovely effect and can usually be found at most any dollar store . Hope this helps and that you have a beautiful wedding =]
Reply:I am doing everything myself for my wedding also. As long as you have enough willing people to help, you will be fine. Gather up your bridal party and do it together and make it a party or pre-wedding event! I am using silk flowers so that we can make everything ahead of time so that we won't be stressed or pressured. Good luck! Feel free to email me if you have any other questions or need more advice :) Congrats!
Reply:I think it's a great idea to do your own centerpieces, however, the bouquets will be in a lot of the pictures with you and your new husband so i wouldn't attempt to make my own! Plus it's going to be a really busy day so don't try do do too much!
Reply:Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

If you are thinking of using silks, then, no, I don't think this would be too much pressure as you can get them done early.

If you are thinking of ordering wholesale flowers and putting them together the day before your wedding (as a florist would), then, yes, I do think that would be too much pressure.
Reply:I made my centerpieces and wanted to add more things to my bouquet, unfortunately I ran out of time.

Keep in mind that you need a lot of time because you have to have to have patience in case something gets messed up.

The making of the baskets, keepsakes, centerpieces and all of the other extra special touches helped me relax.

When I was glueing pearls and lace it was so distracting from the stuff that was going wrong that I had no control over.

Good Luck and Congratulations.
Reply:If you have so many other things to do, then you're just asking for stress.

If it's easy to do and doesn't take all day and all night then do it!

Otherwise, plan a get together party and have you and your friends do it in an assembly line fashion.
Reply:YOu know, simple is sometimes more effective than an intricate bouquet. Take a look online at floristry sites, and see what you think. I am also on a tight budget and I am considering doing my own flowers. Flowers are beautiful anyways so I am thinking of just tying a few pretty ones together simply with a ribbon.

YOu can save a lot of money doing this yourself but do remember that you will have loads of other stuff that has to be done, including getting yourself ready.....it might be easier to use silk flowers, that way you can do it with a few weeks to spare.
Reply:i made all the centerpieces for my friends wedding... they were beautiful! i got glass wide mouthed vases... glass wide, shallow fish bowls... i turned the vase upside down... hot glued the fish bowl on top... stuffed some flowers (artificial but you can use real) up the bottom of the vase.. make sure you get ones that are on branches so that they stand up.. put some colored stones in the fish bowl... with water and floating candles... and then i hot glued some flower heads around to outside of the fish bowl.. i also let some flowers float in the water.. they were gorgeous and sooooo easy to make! we made them a couple weeks before.. maybe even a month.. i dont remember...

Classy or Tacky?

My videographer also does lighting. I can't use candles at my venue...unfortunately. He suggested using these new LED light plates under my floral centerpieces, the flowers would sit on top of them and the light would shine through. They're remote controled and completely wireless, so we can change the colors throughout the night from a warm glow so a subtle pink(my wedding color) what do you think?

heres the website of some lighting he's done

http://www.bostonuplights.com/

Classy or Tacky?
I've seen them done at different weddings on the WE television network. They look great! Besides that, less of a worry for a fire hazard. Haven't we all seen those shows where some part of the bride catches on fire? NOT PRETTY.
Reply:I think it looks gorgeous! I'd stay away from purple and pink though, it looks kind of nightclub.
Reply:Classy, classy, CLASSY! Beautiful venue, too. I have never seen lighting like that, simply beautiful! As a photographer, I might wonder how to white balance under lights like those, would love to see it in person. Best wishes.
Reply:Looks cute, romantic, warm and fuzzy.
Reply:i think they're awesome!!
Reply:Completely agree with Deanri.. in the video they highlighted some of the details of the rooms. If your reception is in a rather plain room, I think you are better off without the colored lights and sticking to the warm glow on the tables.

** Oh its going to look great with your venue!
Reply:That'll look beautiful, I think.
Reply:It seems nice, but what really matters is what you want! If you like it, go for it. I am going to looking at that reception area in a couple of weeks!LOL! Have a happy wedding day!
Reply:I LOVE it.... its different and contemporary and romantic.
Reply:I've seen this before and I really liked it! Go for it!
Reply:I think it sounds very nice! Good-Luck!!!
Reply:The pictures are REALLY cool, I like it!
Reply:I think it depends on your venue. In a more modern place, like the ones on the website, I think it would be a really cool effect. In a hall or someplace like that, it might come off tacky. Overall though, I think it looks nice.
Reply:Love the idea! It is def classy! :)
Reply:They look awesome to me go for it girl!!
Reply:Cool Beans!!! Go For It..
Reply:I think it's really pretty. If you really want candles, but no flame, try some of these possibly. Just another suggestion:

Made from real wax with flickering LED lights. The color changing option allows you to to match any decor. Glows like a real candle!

http://www.flamelesscandles.net/?utm_sou...
Reply:I think it will look great with a fairly modern, clean-lined, place. Yours seems to be good. Just make sure the pink goes with the natural wood tones of the building. Also, make sure that if you have any decorations, they work well with the pink too. Pink decorations, for example, often don't go well with pink lighting -- too much. If you had blue decorations, though, the pink glow would give them a purplish hue when the pink lights came on. Or if you had more of the brown towns, it would give them a warm, romantic, look. It depends on what the rest of your decorations are.

But in answer to your question, it isn't tacky at all and looks very classy.
Reply:It looks really beautiful and unusual. Definitely have those lights! :-)
Reply:I've seen these used a few times, and they are beautiful....very dramatic! Love it.
Reply:WOW they look great! go for it
Reply:very nice. go for it
Reply:It didn't look tacky at all...Calssy
Reply:i think the pics are good and your description sounds pretty! especially since they change color, that's a really nice effect! best of luck
Reply:I like your venue... a lot!
Reply:it's awesome... looks nice!

as long as the colors go with your theme/ vibe...

very nice touch!

no candles does stink -but this is a great solution!
Reply:that is very unique it kinda reminds of lighting in like a club or something on TV

Wedding decorations?

How many are opting for artifical floral arrangements? I'm a defiantly having fresh flowers for bouquets and boutonnieres, but found beautiful centerpieces made with artificial flowers. Do you think artificial flowers are tacky?

Wedding decorations?
I had artificial flowers at my wedding, even my bouquet. My mother made them all using silk flowers from Michaels. They were absolutely beautiful and everyone complimented them. You couldn't even tell they were fake unless you were very close (Some people who saw my pics asked what florist I used, heheh). And we saved a ton of money! So, no, not tacky at all. :)
Reply:they are very much so tacky! i hate going to weddings and seeing fake flowers. too me i think fresh flowers are gorgeous and really they are not that expensive if you plan correctly on what to use and etc. even if it is just a single long stem rose in a vase on a table for a centerpiece is a lot prettier then a fake arrangement.
Reply:buy what you can afford. they do have some tacky silk flowers, but they also have some that you can hardly tell are fake. I will say, check the price of both. sometimes the prices are very near the same.
Reply:If you like then its all that matters. Plus you can save some if you want! If they look real and you like then then defiantly go for it. You can even recreate your bouquet to match in silk as a keepsake!
Reply:A lot of people use Silk Flowers for decorations!!! I've put together weddings that use fake Trees!!!!! You can always lay some flower pedals around the tables to help contrast the real and fake!!!
Reply:Not tacky at all. Beautiful, lasting, and can be used afterwards.
Reply:Not at all, they can be beautiful and are a great way to save on money. I'm doing ALL of my floral stuff with artificial.

Please help me to find water jewels online where I can order them?

They are little tiny balls that expand the longer they sit in water, they can be used for centerpieces at wedding or just for floral arrangements. At Micheals you have to go in the store to get them. The Micheals here is out of the clear, and we only have one Micheals here.

Please help me to find water jewels online where I can order them?
I looked everywhere

Micheals.com has them but none that you can order.

i will keep my eye out for you. You know if i think it would be possible i would buy it for you and then send it to you and you just pay me back, that would be a hassle tho.

How much should a small rose bridesmaid bouquet cost?

I have absolutely no idea what to expect for the cost of the florist for our wedding. I don't even want a lot of flowers, and the bridesmaid's bouquets will just be three large roses tied together with satin. How much would the average florist charge per bouquet? We don't even want floral centerpieces - just tall branches with votive candles hanging off them. I'd just like an idea before we start interviewing florists to get an idea.

Please only answer if you happen to have experience in the floral industry or have planned a wedding before. Thanks :)

How much should a small rose bridesmaid bouquet cost?
It depends on the time of year..For example, around Valentines Day, they will be much more expensive.
Reply:It depends on the florist and also WHEN you buy the flowers. It is cheaper to go through a wholesale florist because they buy directly from the growers, and the flowers are fresher. However, the cost of flowers can vary, depending on timing. For example, my florist told me not to have my consultation until after Valentine's Day, because the weeks leading up to it, the prices of flowers go up (from the growers) but right after they go down. Same thing with Mother's Day. Once my price is quoted and the deposit is paid, it can't go up. But each florist differs...

Anyway, to give you a number, I would't spend more than $20 per bouquet for a three-rose ensemble
Reply:what you need to do is check it out on the computer and get an idea of what roses you want and an idea on how much they cost then go to our florist that you picked and see what they can do for you
Reply:Depending on where you live- what you described would be around $35.
Reply:I was going to get all roses for me and we knocked down the price too 150.
Reply:I would order the centerpieces from a florist, price will vary depending on the size.

Order bulk roses from www.costco.com and make your own bouquets. They come in 125 stems and cost either $189 or $219 depending on the color you order.

You could even make your own bridal bouquet if you wanted and /or use any leftover for rose petals, etc. It is easy. You need florist tape, wire, ribbon, straight pins with pearl embellishment on tip and hairspray. It only takes a few minutes. Google it. You will pay double or triple for such an easy task through a florist.
Reply:I am having bouquets of 6 roses made for my bridesmaids and am paying $45 each for them.
Reply:I paid $65 for cream roses (approx. 8-10 roses) in my bridesmaid's bouquet, and $125 for mine (all roses....probably about 20).

In total we ordered: 2 bouquets (just me and a MOH), 6 boutonnieres, 4 corsages, 2 candelabra pieces for the church, and rose petals for the tables at the reception and flower girl and paid about $500. Hope that helps!!
Reply:It depends on what time of the year you are planning on. If you are planning on getting roses for the bridesmaids around Valentine's Day expect the price to be considerably high.

If you are planning to do it another time of the year that isn't around any other major holiday (flower prices will go up around the holidays) then I would expect you to pay somewhere around $30-$35. You might be better off doing it yourself if you only want 3 roses for the bridesmaids. Get some fabric/ribbon from a craft store and buy a few dozen roses--you can wrap them up the morning of...it'll save you a lot of money.

Can someone give me a ballpark for wedding flowers?

My fiance and I are crunching numbers for our wedding/reception. I would want a SIMPLE bouquet, not a big flower person for me and my 4 bridesmaids. Plus we would need boutiners (sp?) for then men. If we have at the venue I want (a mansion). They have a TON of floral and candles already set up for our ceremony and reception so we would only need the flowers mentioned above. If we have it at a hotel ballroom (ceremony and reception) I would think we would have to pay for some flower or greenery for the ceremony site and the centerpieces (about 15 tables) as well. Can someone give me a ballpark figure? I'm trying to convince my fiance that the extra we pay for the mansion we would save in floral. (They will set up ALL our stuff for us at the mansion, wo we would not a florist to come, we could just pick up the flowers at Sam's)

Can someone give me a ballpark for wedding flowers?
(We stole ours from Wrigley Field)

i was just going to say use sams for bulk flowers and diy them

or go to your local grocery stores floral dpt and crunch numbers with the staff.

bring pics of what you want.

use carnations and larger but more inexpensive flowers if possible. less roses more gerbera type thinking.

get a hand tied bouquet of gerberas, tulips and greenery for you, your bms can have the same style but just gerberas and greenery. guys boutinners can be just carnations with a sprig of babys breath and some greenery

if your ceremony site realllly doesn't need flowers bcse it's naturally pretty- skip it.

centerpieces... depending on what you want can be very inexpensive-

here are a few ideas of ones that shouldn't cost much do to- and will keep your flower budget low

you can rent vases from a lot of florists... use calla lilies, gerbera or tulips for this look. add greenery if you want

any in season flowering branch can be used for this. just stick them in the top of the vase

oh don't forget to post on craigslist or your local yahoo freecycle group that you are looking for xyz type vase or glassware for your centerpieces. many new brides are happy to unload their wedding left overs for free or cheap.

Why is my florist afraid to work with these flowers?

At the end of July, my wedding arrives. I'm not a 'Bridezilla" although I ve been through three planners, 2 photographers, and now possibly, at the last moment a new Floral decorator...Why?...Because, after quite a bit of research, I settled on a designer who i thought would easily meet my expectations...I decicided on varied height centerpieces, using a array of summer blooms such as dahlias, Cockscomb, Peonies, Hydrangea, viburnum, asiatic Lilies, Garden Roses, and anything else that may be available the week of my party. The colrs are a mix of all shades of pink, orange, peach, butter yellow and chartreuse...But now my 'Hero" informs me that due to poor crops around the world recently he will have a difficult time procurring these types of blooms, in these colors...(However, he CAN get the flowers I prefer in shades of Lavender, Cinammon, Chocolate,Celedon and Hot pink) Interesting, these are the exact colors (minus the pink) that both he and my Fiancee suggested. What to do?

Why is my florist afraid to work with these flowers?
Well umm you sound a little like a bridezilla it is your fiancee's wedding too he should get some say, besides it is just flowers trust me nobody is going to care what everything looks like i guarantee they will not even remember what color flowers you had, they are there simply to get fed their dollars worth of whatever gift they bought you and leave.
Reply:Perhaps you are asking the wrong question. From what you've said it seems there is a lack of the colors you want or is it the florist prefers the colors your future husband likes? For me, your question isn't clear. You imply that you are extremely particular, why would you "hero" lie to you? I suggest that you call the local floral warehouse and ask exactly what flowers might be available during your wedding week. If a warehouse is not available to you, call several local florists and ask the same question.
Reply:Call around and see if other florist tell you the same thing...if they do, then he is being truthful, if not...dump him and go with someone else....hopefully this is the only wedding you will have...it should be perfect.
Reply:As you guessed , he's probably lying . Why? - ???? The Viburnum %26amp; Peonies area stretch at the end of July , %26amp; they %26amp; Hydrangea don't hold up well in the usual July heat .Also become more expensive out of season .(What your fiancee is worried about?) Might be what he's worried about . If you are OK with that ( should hold up for the wedding itself - more than that - ???) let him know. Dahlias, lilies, %26amp; cockscomb , are most readily available in a mix , so the rest of it sounds like bs. Good Luck
Reply:How about Mums. They could fill in the colors the other plants would be missing? Also, consider flowers that could be 'dipped' in edged dye.

Can someone tell me how to DIY these tall centerpieces?

I'm a true DIY bride, and I'd really like to recreate one of these centerpieces. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need some Oasis floral foam, but can anyone give me more direction? Possibly link to a website that has directions?

http://www.vibride.com/images/photoalbum...

http://whitelilacinc.com/images/gallery/...

Can someone tell me how to DIY these tall centerpieces?
Two things.

1) rent a candelabra with a BOWL. It fits in the center where the candle would be. This is what holds the floral foam and keeps your roses from dying.

2) Buy some roses and practice beforehand. It's going to take hours to do these centerpieces, and you will need help. Buy a dozen or so roses and get you helpers to practice with you. It's going to be harder than you think it is.

You can buy roses in bulk pretty cheaply. Try Big Rose dot com.
Reply:Try this website, they have all kinds of ideas.

http://www.mybindi.com/weddings/features...

good luck.
Reply:I think the right container is your answer. The drama is the style, it wouldn't matter what flowers you used. You could use weeds and they would look beautiful. They ARE beautiful. Do you have any contacts at a floral wholesale business?

If I was close to you I would volunteer to help!
Reply:First off, they are both gorgeous! Definetely going to need floral foam. Are you going to rent the holders? It really doesnt look hard to do, I would get some silk flowers and just play with the design to get it the way you want it first. Semmetry will be key.

Reply:if you want nice flowers on some important tables like parents tables or immediate family you can use your bridesmaids bouquets for small centerpieces. this is a really useful and frugal way to reduce the number of centerpieces you need to buy/create and if you have a large wedding party or a small guest list you can really save money this way!

candles or bowls filled with water and floating candles, loose flower petals strewn across the table, all these small touches look really great under dim lighting in a reception hall and save room on the table for the china.
Reply:A good friend of mine purchased picture frames and placed pictures of all the people that will be at the wedding in the frames and put them on the tables, pictures of the past and present. Then you have conversation pieces plus pictures to keep for years to come.
Reply:3 cylinder, glass vases(all different sizes or just one large), filled with water and one orchid anchored down in the water(so the flower is completely submerged). Reply:Go to a craft store like Michael's and buy candles and surround them with small silk flowers--get 3 different size candles so they are different heights--wait until they have what you want on half price sale. Or you can buy flat mirror squares and sprinkle confetti on them with a candle in the middle--the mirror reflects the light and it is beautiful. Or sprinkle rose petals or whatever your flower girl will be sprinkling down the aisle down the middle of the tables. Or make a centerpiece for each table with a collage of pictures of the bride and groom, from childhood up. Or...well, there are just about a thousand different things to do! Honestly, though, centerpieces don't have to be that expensive. You can use inexpensive flowers like carnations, daisies, baby's breath, etc., with a lot of green. Forget your florist. Go to someplace like Costco or Sam's club--you can get something that will match or coordinate with your wedding flowers for about $15 each, and no one will be the wiser. If you make something else, in the end you've only saved maybe $100. Think about it.
Reply:You can have a few tables with low centerpieces and other tables with http://weddings.theknot.com/odb/themes/r... But of course with your colors. And have candles on every table. Candles are less expensive than flowers.

What do i need to make my own bouquets?

I am just placing an order online for my supplies to make my own wedding bouquets and table decorations. Is there anything else i will need, this is what ive already got: silk flowers, silk leaves/foilage, bouquet holders, stemwrap tape, glue, pearl sprays, grass bush, centerpiece tray, dry foam, floral wire. A question for men

Wedding Flowers?

2 part question:

I need some ideas for centerpieces for a Christmas themed wedding.. pictures would help.

Also, we are having a small reception in the same place as the rehearsal dinner. Only the wedding party will be at the rehearsal, will it be okay to reuse some of the flowers?

My ceremony flowers will be burgundy calla lillies, it's outside right on the river, so we need very little in the floral arrangements.

Wedding Flowers?
There is no problem using the flowers that you used for the rehearsal. Its a great way to save money!

As far as your Christmas themed wedding, you could put little christmas trees on your tables for center peices and you could also use a really pretty glass bowl and put diffrent colored ornaments in the bowl. Or nice candles which make it really elegant and cozy!

and they make favors where you personalize little pine trees as favors and gifts for your guests. its a really cute idea.
Reply:I think it would be good to use Holly and mistletoe in your arrangements. Also, maybe use poinsettas as centerpieces at your reception, they're inexpensive and very christmasey!

Incorporate some red and white ribbons in with your boquets as well... and maybe a little string of faux pearl beads so they look like they reflect the idea of garland around a tree.

Good luck, sounds like it will be an interesting wedding!!
Reply:I went to two weddings last year in December and one wedding that I thought that had the best flowers had cranberries in the centerpieces.

It was a bowl in the middle of the table with a floating bouquet in it with small poinsettias, green leaves and tiny cranberries floating in the water.
Reply:Something like this seems perfect...

http://www.flowersallover.com/images/ftd...

It is pretty and goes right along with your theim...

It you want to stick with the cala lilies than something like this would work..... the round vase with a mini wreath around it

http://www.poorhubby.com/images/callalil...
Reply:Maybe you could make little tree center pieces. That would be cute. Hang little wedding ornaments on them. :) Yes, re-use whatever you can!! No one will notice and if they do, they won't know they are re-used, they will think it's all themed and matched together!
Reply:What about a large glass bowl filled with xmas ornaments in your colors? Surround it with a few votives and at the end of the night everyone could take one home as a favor.

What is the cost difference in making your own flowers or getting real ones from a florist?

I am trying to decide whether or not to use fake or real flowers for some of the floral arrangements at my wedding. I definitely want a florist to make the boquets and centerpieces out of real flowers. But, for everything else, I would consider making my own arrangements with fake flowers as long as it is cheaper than getting real flowers.

Some people decide to make their own floral decorations for their wedding with fake flowers and they turn out nice. But, why not just use real flowers? Do real flowers cost signifigantly more than fake ones?

What is the cost difference in making your own flowers or getting real ones from a florist?
Unless you are able to get fresh flowers from a wholesaler (you need a business tax-id #), it will cost a little less than the florist with a lot more headache.

You can get really nice silk/fake flowers from Michael's Carfts, etc..., but make one arrangement as an experiment first. It probably won't turn out like you want. So don't go buying gobs of flowers and supplies until you know exactly what you want.
Reply:real flowers cost much more than doing it yourself. You can get fake flowers from michaels for under a dollar each and then you just buy some ribbon to wrap around. I'll probably make my own flowers to hold! They look just as nice :-) congrats on getting married!
Reply:I just did my own flowers.

I spent 100$ at Hobby Lobby for silks to go in the church and in urns outside the church, they are not close enough to guests for them to tell the difference.

Then I bought 300$ worth of flowers from an online wholesale website. I made 3 bouquets, all the corsages, button holes from the groom and ushers etc, table arrangements and pew arrangments. I may have spent 500$ in total for all flowers silk and live and for the acsessories to assemble them. There are so many ways to save money if you have the ability and time and are willing to do some of the work yourself. By the way the arrangments I made for 500$ would have cost me 3 grand at the florist, I did price it.

Also, getting bridesmaids and moms to help do this makes for a GREAT night of laughter and memories.
Reply:Real flowers can cost between double the price to 10 times the price of silk flowers. I went with silk for my wedding. With silk you know exactly what the arangements will look like since the flowers colors will NOT vary like with realy ones. Plus you can keep them after the wedding if you want and it won't cost you an additional fee to have them dryed.
Reply:Real flowers cost SIGNIFICANTLY more than fake flowers. The average expenditure on real flowers ranges in the 700 to 1500 range, depending on size of your wedding and complexity. Fresh flowers look nice in the wedding, but they wilt and die, and you can't keep them unless you preserve/dry them. Silk flowers will always look as nice as your wedding day, if you keep them out of bright sunlight (they might fade otherwise).

Now, I looked into making my own bouquets/arrangements with silk flowers, but I knew they would not look nearly as professional. So, I went to Ebay and did some "wedding flowers" searches. There are a number of very reputable florists on Ebay that do custom orders of flowers for your wedding. I bought my silk flower arrangements for less than $200 including shipping. That included my bouquet, three bridesmaids, one toss, corsages for the Mothers, bouts for all the guys and 8 pew bows. My flowers look great and they will never wilt. Based on the average cost I mentioned above, I saved at least $500 that I can spend somewhere else. I think that was much better than blowing almost a thousand dollars on fresh flowers for a half hour ceremony and a 5 hour party. I would rather take that saved money and put it towards better quality food, better music, or save it for my honeymoon.
Reply:there are fake flowers that look real. just dont add tacky touches such as fake butterflies to the arrangement, then it looks really tacky. you can save an arm and a leg by going fake, just get good fakes!
Reply:I think fake flowers are tacky and to get really nice ones they cost as much as real flowers. I also depends on the flowers you want.... like roses cost more then mums. I would personally do the opposite- have real flowers for you to hold and for your pictures and use fake flowers on the table if you have to. Fake flowers look terrible in pictures!
Reply:Definitely go with real flowers. For our wedding, we bought 750 roses for around 300 dollars. Try www.globalrose.com. They're relatively inexpensive and will ship them directly to your home. Florists are over priced. I think people use "fake" flowers because they last. That way, you can make them in advance. Personally, I hate fake flowers. They just say cheap to me.
Reply:Hi i am 21 years old and getting married very soon. i made EVERYTHING out of fake flowers cause i think its a lot cheaper and they will last a lot longer then real ones and you don't have to worry about watering them, little kids spilling them, pedals falling off, you know what i mean. my wedding is coming up in a month and my reception is in 2 months cause I'm having a destination wedding. plus if you go with fake ones you don't have to worry about a floweriest!!! i made my own bouquets out of fake flowers myself and have never done it before and it looks professional and only took me about and hour 1/2 to make it!!!! i was surprised. i even made my own boutonnieres. i shopped at discount stores and it costed me i think $20 for enough flowers to make my bouquet, throwing bouquet, and about 15 boutonnieres with flowers left over to use on the cake!!!!! i don't know if i helped but it was worth a shot!
Reply:I found that when looking for good quality fake flowers they do get quite expencive. try your local sams club, I bought beautiful red roses(real) and only paid $15 for bunches of 2 dozen
Reply:real flowers are more expensive plus with the fake flowers you can keep them for much more longer than you can real. for you anniversary you can use the centerpiece for that special anniversary dinner at home.
Reply:Silks are ususally used because they last forever. This way the bride and groom can keep or give away the flowers. However, most silks that look real cost more than real flowers. But you can start preparing your silks way in advance, unlike real flowers that only have a few days. Check with you local florist about your other flowers, but you may want to consider buying fresh and doing them yourself. That would save you alot of money... but you would have to do it the day or two before the wedding.
Reply:my mom is making all of mine. there is a huge difference in the cost- she is using real flowers. it depends on how much you need. but i would think in general silk cost less than fresh
Reply:Fresh flowers are costly. Silk lasts forever, I had everything made of silk, so we could keep them forever. My bridesmaid's and everyone. I gave the centerpieces away at the wedding to friends who had really been there. But it was considerably less for silk. Also, options are endless in silk.
Reply:The cost difference is pretty big. I saved about $600 by combining the two that way you got the look and the smell. I had a summer wedding with Lillies as my main flower. They were real but the rest was silk. Good luck!!!!!
Reply:I made my own from micheal's silk flowers and spent a total of $80 versus the florist wanting to charge $350. It was worth it and a really fun project with my bridesmaids.

A wedding budget of $6000? Help me!?

We are in need of some assistance. We are wanting to get married on April 12th, 2008 and our WHOLE wedding budget is $6000.00. We have someone to do the floral arrangements and the centerpieces but does anybody know a reasonable priced venue for a wedding ceremony and reception in the Mesquite, TX area that includes some sort of food? Thanks in advance!

A wedding budget of $6000? Help me!?
Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Yes, I really think your budget is "doable". You can get everything you want....it just may be a little different than the "traditional" wedding.

~ Two BIG ways to save is to have a SMALL wedding; say 75-100 guests MAX! The second way is to have a SMALL wedding party....just a maid of honor and best man, maybe a flower girl if you really want.

~ There are so many ways to save -- you just need to decide what is important and what you can cut. Everything from your gown to the photographer can come in cheaper if you look around and go "outside the box."

The biggest portion of a wedding budget is the reception so that is the biggest area where savings can add up! Cost compare everything! Everything is dependent on location, location, location! Personally, I do not know of any places in your city. But....look around! You will not be able to afford the "best" venue. But you can look at VFW Halls, Knights of Columbus Halls, cheaper hotels like Holiday Inn or Best Western. The hotels will be able to provide food. The other places should have kitchen facilities where you can bring in your own or have it catered.

~ Another big way to save on your reception would be to have it outside at a park or in someone's backyard.

~ Do you belong to a church? That is another option. Most churches have Fellowship Halls you can use.

Sit down with your fiance and add up the cost of a hall rental, buffet dinner, etc. and compare that to a church hall reception, backyard reception, etc. Sometimes the "outside" thing isn't feasible because you need to rent chairs, tables, tents, bring in plates, cups, silverware, etc. Again, compare. It may be cheaper for you to go to a hall.

~ Other options are to not do the "traditional" dinner thing. Why not have a MORNING wedding with a brunch reception? This would be a HUGE savings and would be very different and unique. OR....have a late morning wedding and a lunch reception. Again, the savings could really add up.

~ Your dress: Look at places like David's Bridal, JCPenney, etc.

~ Your wedding party - keep it small. This is a big savings...not only in terms of "stress", but in terms of attendants gifts, extras at the rehersal dinner, etc. It ALL adds up!

~ Invitations: Buy the "boxed sets" from stores like Michael's, Target, and Walmart. These sell for around $25 and there are 50 in a box.

~ Flowers and centerpieces you said are covered.

~ Cake - a waste!!!! Have a small cake for you and your hubby to cut and then have cupcakes! OR, get a cake from a grocery store bakery NOT a regular bakery. This can be a substantial cost savings!

~ Photographer: Do NOT scrimp on a photographer!

~ Favors - I urge every bride to NOT do favors. No one notices or cares. This is a HUGE waste. If you really think you need something....go with a few Hershey Kisses in a mesh bag.

~ Don't waste money on "table cameras" either! These are usually not used very much, and if they are, people only take silly pictures.

There are endless ways to save. Go on other websites to see what other brides have done! Here is a good site:

www.frugalbride.com

Good luck!
Reply:Parks are usually cheap to rent. Maybe you could have everyone bring a dish to pass at the wedding. Or you could make a list of the food you need and have friends and relatives sign up for what they will bring. Like if you need 5 Roasts five different people could bring a roast.
Reply:Venues may offer catering, but it's normally expensive.

Some reasonably prices venues that are on your budget are VFW halls, community halls, church felowship halls.

Local parks and gardens are alaso a great choice for you since you are in TX, an outdoor spring or fall wedding would be great and economical.

To cut costs, cut back on your guest list. WAY back. A small intimate wedding is affordable on all budgets. Keep it at 50-75 guests at the most.

Have a brunch, hors d'ouvres or cocktail reception to avoid full meal expenses. You must have yoru reception mid-morning, mid-afetrnoon or late at night so people will not expect a full meal. Light appetizes and finger food would do for such type of receptions.

Dessert reception or cake and reception is also a good choice,

Good luck and congrats
Reply:Im a wedding planner, email me I can help you, its not the how much(or how little) you spend, but how it looks
Reply:pril is a lovely time of the year...you can have a tent set up in the yard and cater the food or you can rent out a restaurant for after the church. if you keep the dinner guest to immediate family then you should be OK
Reply:We're having a small wedding and looking at a fire hall or a hotel for the reception area. Consider talking to your family about helping with wedding costs as a wedding gift. My fiance and I are having a very small reception and our budget is about the size of yours, a little smaller. We have a lot of family that can help us though, someone who makes cakes, someone to make the gown, someone who is a photographer, someone we know who caters... it's very helpful.
Reply:$6000 is a lot of money and if spent wisely can give you the most wonderful wedding day to remember.

Weddings don't need to be about how much you spend but how much you enjoy your special day. Afterall, this is the start of your wonderful new life together - why start it with a stressed out overpriced wedding day.

We have created a STRESS FREE wedding guide that includes heaps of HOT TIPS for saving money on your wedding day.

Enjoy your day above all else.
Reply:Honey, $6000 may sound like a lot, but really when it comes to a wedding its not. It can be done with $6000. But honestly your wedding day goes by so fast and so much money gets spent on that day. Just to a bark yard wedding, get a white tent pretty flowers stuff like that. You can make it look beautiful you just have to be creative. And do a big BBQ. You will spend so much money of food if you do it any other way. My wedding was $80 a plate. With over 150 guests it really adds up. I wish I would have done it smaller. But whatever you do spare no cost on your photographer. When its all done and over with the pictures are the only things you have to look back on. So you want your pictures to. be amazing. I had a friend who splurged on the flowers, the dress, the cake, food, linens, etc.... And didn't think much to research a good photographer. And her pictures are awful. She cant take that back. When her and her hubby go back to reminisce on their wedding they only have these dreadful pictures to look back on. So just make that your #1 right now. And all that really matters is that you are marrying the man of your dreams. Cuz trust me on your wedding day that is all that you will see (your hubby) everything else around you will be a blur.
Reply:Do you know any one with a large beutiful back yard or garden? I'd try to find something like that that you can do for free. Then you'll have more money for food.

I see alot of people using disposable cameras and the wedding guests for the pics.
Reply:congrats! i dont live near you, but as far as food goes, some little sneaky pointers ive picked up:

-buffet is much cheaper than sit down or family style dinner

-a square or rectangular cake will serve more guests for the same number of layers

-honest to god, you can have styrofoam iced for some of the layers of your cake, and slice a sheet cake in the kitchen. its ecominal, tasty, and your guests will never know the difference

- for the love, serve the top tier of the cake, i garauntee you wont want to eat it a year later

- examine the drink prefernces of your guests. an open bar is much cheaper if you serve pop, water, beer, and wine, exclusively. you can add a signature drink if you know youll need a martini!

- many venues offer reduced pricing for sunday or friday events
Reply:Easy, just get a homemade cake, a good friend with a good camera, rent your outfits, and much other things. Try checking out the site I attached. Good Luck with your wedding! :]
Reply:Honey, just to let you know, our budget was under $4, 000.00 and it's going to be BEAUTIFUL.

Is this a decent price for an "all inclusive" wedding?

I found this place near by and its really beautiful! They have wedding packages that include everything! Considering i've found many place that cost about this price and its just for the rental i'm thinking this is a steal..... $8750(for 125 guests...give or take) and this is whats included.

Is this a decent price for an "all inclusive" wedding?
Just out of curosity, what place is offering this package?

It sounds familiar to the package that we almost got - of course, then we read all the stipulations and realized it would cost a lot more than we thought. Like if we wanted to get married on a Saturday the price went up $5.00 per person...almost everyone gets married on a Saturday. It was the Wedgewood Banquet Center...they have lots of different places, so I would caution you against working with those people. They were quite rude as well...
Reply:I guess it depends where you live, but it sounds like a steal to me, especially since you think the place is beautiful! Go for it!

You'll have so little to worry about with all that. Note that you will still have to pay for some items: clothing, photographer, favors, etc. But still, it sounds like a great deal. See if you can get a tasting to make sure the food is good, though!
Reply:Wow, it sounds like a deal (just make sure it's not a 'too good to be true' deal - get references from couples who have recently had their weddings there, contact them, and talk to them).

Especially with the buffet menu and full open bar, it sounds like very good value.
Reply:Don't have the Buffet !

I almost made that mistake! NO!!!!!!!!

Have the sit-down...it's nicer..NO ONE

Do you have Open Bar Always or just at C Hour?

Then also....Music, Photos, Lil Gifts to Bring Home

HAVE YOU TASTED THE FOOD???

Make SURE you DO!!!!

Congrats and Have Fun !

PS: What did you decide for Dresses?

Just curious. !
Reply:I think so, That is about $70 per guest.... actually sounds average. What about all the stuff your getting?? Are they quality or cheapy items. And the flowers....do you get to pick or are they gonna be carnations. Just depends on the extras and what they are offering you.
Reply:Sounds good to me! You could probably shop around %26amp; find a better price depending on where you live but if you can kill all the birds with one stone why not? That will take alot of stress off of you... :)
Reply:Very good deal, I'd go with, it also takes out some worry and hastel.
Reply:That is a BARGAIN girl,I would go for it you have nothing to lose.GREAT PRICE!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES.
Reply:whatever one will give you the most bang for your buck would be the way to go.
Reply:wow it seems like it to me, especially if they take care of most of the work for you too.
Reply:I think it sounds great! Where are you located?!

Only things are:

1. Request a tasting of ALL food (even if you don't select an item, how can you make an appropriate selection if you haven't tasted it)

2. Ask for a cake tasting as well.

3. Ask what flowers are available.

4. Ask what they consider "Well %26amp; Call Liquors, Premium Wines and Beers", it could be plastic bottles, 2 buck chuck wine and coors/budwiser beers.....

5. Ask to see, touch, feel all linens (also ask what colors available) - i say this because they could be plastic lined or just chintzy looking - just so you know what you're getting

6. Ask to see, touch, feel the plates, glasses and silverware - I say this because they could look and feel like Wal-Mart/bulk party goods - again just so you know what you're getting

Good luck and CONGRATS!
Reply:Wow that is an awesome price for a wedding. I mean with all of the bells and whistles, wow. Just add in the fact that you will have to add a cake %26amp; photographer. (They may charge a cake cutting fee, etc.) Still it is a great price. I couldn't find anything near that price in my area and that would just be catering not all of the extras.

I agree with the other poster - read the fine print and get everything in writing. Really check it out. Sometimes if it looks too good to be true it is.
Reply:I would check on the quality of the items. Make sure you do a food taste test of the items you will be having. Check the quality of the invitations and is there an invitation in their selection that you like? What type of flavors and fillings do they offer for the cake? How is the cake decorated? Are the linens for the tables included? If you want to do favors or add something of your own, can you? Do you like the floral decorations that they offer? Do you want a sweet heart table and tables for the wedding party and their guests or do you want a bridal table? Do they offer the sweetheart table? What type of music is played? Can you make your own selections or is it canned? Can you have soft music playing in the background during dinner? What about dancing, is there an adequate dance floor? Just some of the many questions you want to ask them before signing a contract.
Reply:a rule of thumb is price of wedding is 1 yr wages for the father of the bride so how much does he make you need to spend more i think

How much did your branch centerpieces cost?

I want very simple centerpieces at my wedding that basically look like this (I'm undecided on the crystals), with votive candles on the table to add warmth. How much would something like this cost me? I'm on a really tight floral budget.

How much did your branch centerpieces cost?
You can make these yourself. Could probably be done for around $70 - $80 each if you shop wisely.

Branches - 8 - 10 or more, depending on the size of the vase

Vase - shop Wal-Mart, and off price stores to find the best price

Ribbon around top of vase - watch sales and look for coupons for fabric stores, Michaels or Hobby Lobby type stores

Crystals - about 20 - 25 per centerpiece You can use old earrings you pick up at flee markets, garage sales, resale shops. These don't have to be identical as long as they are all the same clear glass. Here are some options from OTC, but by the time you buy these individually, they will add up quickly.

http://www.orientaltrading.com/applicati...

http://www.orientaltrading.com/applicati...

VOTIVE %26amp; CUP - less than $1 each http://www.orientaltrading.com/applicati...

These might be safer and easier to attach to the branches: http://www.orientaltrading.com/applicati...

Rocks - probably least expensive at Wal-Mart in the floral department or at the craft store
Reply:about $75 to $170
Reply:Cut your own branches. You might be able to rent the vases for less than you can buy them.
Reply:Im doing this too but man, it can be expensive. Here's what you do:

go on a walk with your fiancee to find the branches. Look for ones with LOTS of branchy off-shoots. Take them home and paint them (or leave them natural) you can paint them black, white, silver, whatever. use spray paint. go to this website for crystals: www.gspncrystal.com you can buy them for $6 per yard and you can also buy single drop crystals in any color. No minimum order!! When you are done painting the branches, wrap wire around the bottom to keep them in place. You will need a fdew branches per tree. You can also hot glue flowers to the branches. I used about 3 yards per tree so thats $18 per tree. Put them in a pretty, tall vase. For the votives, buy plain glass votive holders with a lip on them. You can get them at michaels for $1. Wrap wire around the lip and hang them in the tree. You can use manzanita branches for these things but they are EXPENSIVE!!!! you can email me at bluegurl1700@yahoo.com for any questions, good luck!!! ps the crystals on this site are real crystal. dont use plastic, they will just look like....plastic!!
Reply:If there is a forest near you, it wont cost you anything but a Saturday spent searching!

For the vases, compare prices in stores and renting from your florist. If you buy them, how much can you sell them for?

If you dont use the crystals, you could use a little glue + glitter to (sparingly) add sparkle to some of the branches.

I think those are really cool centrepieces.
Reply:if you have a forest around you nothing.

you can even contact your local parks department or a few tree trimmers and ask for them to keep long branches for you.

if you wanted to add sparkle w/o the crystals hanging down... try the project pages of save-on-crafts.com they have crystallized branches.

you just take craft glue and coat the branches... sprinkle on chunky plastic glitter and let dry. the candle light will catch on them.

i think it's $4 a bag and the bag does a lot of branches.

depending on when you are getting married... you can shop after christmas sales when ornaments and decorations are on clearance. you might be able to get the sparklely crystals or other dangly decor for the branches

oh the vases... you can get them at walmart for about $10 each. or post on craigslist that you are looking for vases and someone might have left overs. they don't have to all match. that would add to the uniqueness of the look.

Cherry Blossom Wedding?

I really love cherry blossom trees.. I want to implement these flowers into my wedding... has anybody ever done this or know of any good websites to get some great ideas from? I am thinking on each table at my reception to have a cherry blossom floral centerpiece. And the blossoms spread down the isle when I get married...

Cherry Blossom Wedding?
I have seen amazing cherry blossom wedding cakes out there.

Also, you can easily find cherry blossom invitations.

If you live in an area favorable to the growth of cherry blossoms, you can give seed packets as wedding favors.
Reply:Sounds just beautiful and unique, not to mention it will smell good to. Check with different florist to get their opinion, see what other flowers will go with these flowers.

You will still need a main flower for you also. So, talk to a florist or a wedding planner, they can help.
Reply:What a great idea! I don't really have any helpful tips, but I just had to throw in my opinion that I think your wedding will be beautiful. :-)

Check craft stores for cherry blossoms unless you want to do real ones, which means you'd have to get married at this time of year. If you live on the east coast, the blossoms are in full bloom in DC right now. You should go check them out. :)
Reply:Yep - my daughter is having a cherryblossom wedding. Colors pink and chocolate brown with honeydew green.

She found cherry blossom invitations, went to the craft store and found a cherry blossom stamp and made her own insert cards, RSVP cards, thank you notes.

Her centerpieces: She's using a tall cylinder from the craft store...with silk cherry blossom stems, grounded with small river rocks. Votive candles around the table. Beautiful
Reply:WOW...that's gorgeous.

If you went to a florist about it I'm sure they would give you some GREAT ideas..
Reply:The area I live in is absolutely famous for its Cherry Blossom trees. We have a Cherry Blossom Festival every year to celebrate it and it's actually going on right now. There are a lot of weddings this time of year because the trees are all in bloom and it makes for some gorgeous wedding pictures. I'm sure you could get a lot of ideas from the website for the festival. We have all kinds of arts and crafts dedicated to Cherry Blossoms!

http://www.cherryblossom.com/
Reply:That smells wonderful what a great idea!

http://www.squidoo.com/cherry_blossom_we...

http://www.favorideas.com/shopping/cat20...
Reply:It's been done and this may sound obvious, but you MUST do it when cherry trees are actually flowering!! Otherwise, it will be insanely expensive to have them shipped!

That means mid-March - April depending on where you live. Consult your local florist to see if they have sources. Most people wouldn't appreciate you chopping branches off their beautiful trees...unless of course you have some on your own property! :)

Honest opinion.......centerpieces that tell our story....?

I want to have our wedding be a true celebration of 'US' and not just a party where i wear a big dress..... so i was thinking about 'US' and how we came to be an 'US'. Now, we have a long distance relationship so all the time we have together is very special and we do different things.....meet here or there or half-way between. Anyway, i was thinking about doing somthing to put on the tables that would describe us and tell our love story. Maybe somrthing typed and framed to put with a floral centerpiece or maybe i can make our centerpieces all different from the diff places we've been, all the things we like to do, or milestones in our relationship.....i could decorate like 'the trip we took to San Fransisco' and have a golden gate bridge or 'our first ValentinesDay' with the pictures he took of me making dinner for him or '500 miles to meet the family'. what do you think about something like this? would you think it's cute or creative or tacky? any ideas or suggestions?

thank you.

Honest opinion.......centerpieces that tell our story....?
I think it would be cute if you typed and framed a short story (maybe 3 per table) to explain why that icon is important to you. It would be a good way to get your guests to mingle also as they would want to read what's on each table.
Reply:I think that is a really good idea and it would save money becuase you could do it out of things you already have! also if you make like a scrapbook page or something like that you can save it for yourself!
Reply:I think that sounds like a great idea. really cute
Reply:How about a chocolate cell phone on each table with a 'bride" on one side and "groom" on the other. Place it on a map with, maybe licorice strings connected to the phone.

Then, display a large map with each place, etc...
Reply:We will be putting framed pictures of us all through our relationship on each table too, with flowers in the center. But we will have different pictures at each table. I think it is interesting, and sort of encourages people to get up and mingle with other tables to see all the photos in the collection.
Reply:I think it's a good idea. It will probably spark conversations among guests about the time some of them went to the same place. One possible negative. Will there be an ex or friend of an ex on either side that might have an unflattering story about the bride or groom and one of those cities with someone else? Just checking
Reply:Super great idea! Are there enough pics of the both of you to put on each table? That would be very consistent and would also allow and encourage mingling with your guests. They all will want to go visit other tables to see what is on them.
Reply:Why don't you have each centerpiece different? If you're going to personalize them, you can have one that has a picture of the 2 of you at Golden Gate Park... and another table could have you 2 at his families home, or yours... Because it was a long distance relationship, and you had to travel to see each other, I think it would be great to have those pictures incorporated into your wedding!

Good luck and Congratulations!
Reply:I think that it is such a sweet idea! Very creative and thoughtful. I think its wonderful that you are making it a true celebration of the two of you.

Good luck to you both and congrats!
Reply:This is such a cute idea! Sorry that I have no suggestions though.
Reply:My Friend did something that you could modify into your own thing: she used pictures of them from babies to the year they met and instead of labeling them as 1, 2, 3, etc. she labeled them as years 1975, 1976, etc.

You could do a different picture on each table representing a time or a place, and use that for your table numbering, instead of the usual numbers. Put these in frames and also frame the number/name of each table in a separate frame. You could do the 'GoldenGate Table' the 'Valentines Table' the 'First Date table' and any other special memory you share, or you could do this by year.

Also use a signature flower for all tables that means something to the both of you. You sound like a great couple and I wish you both the best.

Hope this helps, and good luck! ♥

Daytime Wedding Reception Centerpiece ideas?

Do you have any creative centerpiece ideas for a wedding reception to be held in the afternoon (inside) which doesn't include floral arrangements, because they're too expensive. Candles are wonderful but I'm not sure they'd be right for a daytime wedding.

Daytime Wedding Reception Centerpiece ideas?
Hi and congratulations:

Personally, I love flowers and they are not that expensive if you buy them wholesale. Here are two sites:

http://www.growersbox.com/

http://www.rosesource.com/

I'm not sure where you are located, but the above wholesalers only ship to the U.S.....sorry. But if you are in the U.S., I highly recommend checking them out. I used rosesource for my son's wedding and can vouch for their service.

Without flowers you can still do a variety of things, such as:

~ What about stacking favor boxes on a cake pedestal? Here is a link with a picture:

http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site...

~ Here is another link with a favor and centerpiece combination:

http://www.wanderfuls.com/

~ Sugared fruit always makes a beautiful centerpiece and is easy to do.

~ Another idea: Have your parents, family and friends make copies of their wedding photos and put them in nice frames to use as centerpieces. Your guests can enjoy the look of weddings past - especially with parents and grandparents' wedding photos.

~ You can still do candles even though it's daytime. I think candles are nice anytime. Perhaps something with a floating candle? This site has lots of ideas:

http://www.surroundings.com/

Good luck!
Reply:This really depends on your personal tastes, the colors and theme of your wedding, and what time of year your wedding is taking place.

Since we are avoiding flowers, have you considered fruit? Arrangements of citrus fruit (oranges, Lemons, limes) in glass pillars with greenery (fake or real) can be striking displays for spring and summer. Red and Golden apples, or pumpkins are beautiful centerpiece additions for a fall wedding. Small real Pine trees can be perfect for Christmas/Winter weddings.

Other possibilities: Cakes! Individual cakes for each table can be used as centerpieces, and then eaten by the guests seated at the table. (Provide them with cutting instruments). This often will result in the bride and groom spending less on the huge wedding cake, and for "cake cutting" pictures, the bride and groom cut a smaller decorative cake at the Headtable.

Your Centerpiece can also be made from your favors, depending on what your favors are. My favors are going to be bags of gold foil wrapped chocolate coins, and I could easily make my centerpieces out of treasure chests, or glass bowls, filled with bags of gold coins. (Our quotes are about treasuring each other, and our card box is a white treasure chest)

If you like the idea of fishbowls with water, you can float 3 flower heads on the water, with a floating candle. You can also suspend one single flower (rose, lilly, tulip) in a tall thin glass vase..submurging the flower completely gives an impression of magnified size, through the water.

Whatever you do, please don't use live fish or any other living creature. No one wants to get stuck with an unwanted pet, They just want to be a guest at your wedding. :)

Have fun with it, dear. Don't get stressed..try to think out of the box. I've heard of people who had billiards as the theme of their wedding...and on each table they had mini pool tables. Unusual? Yes. Fun? Absolutely!

Reply:how about small bowls ( like a fishbowl), filled with colorful beads and a votive candle. I'm having the same problem with decorations.
Reply:Find a Dollar store by your house.Get flower pots(the small ones) that goes with your wedding colors. Then get some tissue paper that goes.Next go to Walmart and get a 1.99 set of 6 plants that have your color.Take the flower pot,put a piece of tissue paper in and set the plant inside of it.Now crumple some tissue paper up and set the pot on ot.Color is there.Just put one in center for round tables,or 2-one on each end for long tables. Now enjoy it,try it out and have ready 2 days before the wedding...
Reply:candles are good anytime. boy this is a tough one. no flowers at all? not even plastic ones? i don't think i've ever been to a wedding/reception without flowers.

if you get creative, make a modern art centerpiece that is wedding related.
Reply:A unique idea would be to adorn your tables with herbs rather than flowers, they would be fragrant and inexpensive.

I don't think candles are inappropriate for a daytime wedding, If you can't afford a full bouquet of flowers on each table, then place just a few heads (like roses or orchids) around a few votive candles. Simple, yet elegant!
Reply:We are having a daytime reception and the center pieces are glass bowls with floating gerber daisies, very inexpensive if you can find cheap glass bowls, and gerber daisies come in so many different colors and you only need 3 per centerpiece. we have tealights around ours just for nice mood lighting.
Reply:Can you give more details? Colors, is there a theme, what type of location? As a party designer I am chock full of ideas but without knowing a little more its hard to give one that will truly fit you. I understand your candle delimma since we are looking at an afternoon reception as well.

A very chic idea that has been catching on lately is to plant wheat grass in containers, or wheat for fall, etc. Use them as a living centerpiece and surround with river stones. For a spring wedding you can use silk flowers (cheaper than real) or you can use candy to make "flowers" and have them growing out of the grass.

Another option is to go to the nursery and pick up bedding plants in your colors like mums, pansies, whatever they have on hand. You can get an entire flat for like $12 which would do several tables and all you would need to do is transplant them into prettier containers or for a rustic look you can just cover the existing containers with burlap, nice fabric, or ribbon. After the wedding use them for your home or donate them to a park. (Note: if you donate them it's a tax deduction so you pay less at the end of the year)

You could also get lanterns. Remove the candles and instead you can put a single flower or even a butterfly (provided they have enough room to flutter a bit and you provide air supply and a few leaves or something to munch on, then release into wild afterwards)
Reply:Do a basket with flowers in it. Get the flowers that match your colors it will look cute. You can get baskets at the dollar tree. Very cheap.
Reply:A cute and cheap thing a friend of mine did for her centerpieces was to take a glass dish and fill it with different candies (in their wedding colors) then spread some fake rose petals around the dish. That candy was a huge hit! People were chowing on it while waiting for dinner and at the end of the night, guests were scrambling to take the rest home.
Reply:no candles wrong time of the day why not use petals and garland. ]

or if you have a theme, try to find some nic naks to go with it.

Did you try silk flowers?

I need help finding a centerpiece idea for my wedding... our colors are fuschia and orange?

We are not allowed to have candles at the reception, so I'm thinking more of a floral arrangement. I'm planning on silk flowers and something inexpensive, and something I can make myself. Anyone have any ideas??

I need help finding a centerpiece idea for my wedding... our colors are fuschia and orange?
What about a pretty vase... Im picturing one that looks like a big cyllindrical glass with halved oranges in water that you've added some red food coloring to make the water look fushia?

Maybe it sounds better in my head, but I would experiment with something like that.
Reply:my cousins had a wedding a few years ago where the centrepieces were tiny pumpkins that had been hollowed out, and had an arrangement of flowers in them, kind of using the pumpkins as a vase-type base. they looked quite spectacular, so you could look at something like that.
Reply:The below links are a few fushia and orange centerpiece ideas. Hope this helps.

Reply:what about.... large fish bowls filled with water and lilly pads
Reply:how about a tall, clear vases with oranges and lemon grass in side. it's very simple and elegent not to mention you could let the guest take the oranges home with them. lay sone greenery around the vase to add.

good luck.
Reply:have you thought about battery operated candles? they are tealight sized and you could place them in votive holders that match your colors.

clear, cylindrical vases - fill w/ tulle or greenery, mixed in w/ ribbon pieces and loose flowers that match your colors. great way to use up any odds and ends from favors and other decorations.
Reply:A fish bowl with fuschia colored glass beads and goldfish. It has your colors and your centerpiece moves! Plus, people can take the fish home (bowl and all) with them after the wedding.

We did this at our wedding. We had a glass mirror down, got small decorative bowls (from Dollar Tree), put lavender and silver bead in the bottom (our colors) and put a beta in the bowl. We did have candles, but it was just two votive candles around the bowl. It looked awesome and people loved the fish. I bought 22 fish and only ended up taking 4 home with me! :)
Reply:I'm having on each table a glass bowl with floating candles and a betta fish. Nix the candles - maybe a flower instead? Mix and match with fish - lots of fish are orange-colored, especially goldfish and bettas.

Many orchids have fuschia in them. ( even silk ones) find some that have the fuschia and put them and small oranges or tangerines in clear vases. If you place them in just right, the flowers would hide the full whole oranges, yet the colors would be great together. You can get clear vases at the dollar store!
Reply:My friend had similar colors for her wedding and she used gerber daisies, they were beautiful. I'm sure you can get both those colors in silks.
Reply:Another way to add drama to your centerpieces is battery operated candles - comes in all sizes, from pillars to tea lights. Fushia and orange stargazer lillies are gorgeous.

Gerber daises are very pretty especially in hand tied bouquets. Roses of course, but in certain months they are

really expensive (Feb. May and June)

Watch for the sales for the silk flowers or they can be very expensive.

Good luck

Can I have curly willow or similar type branches for summer wedding?

My fiance requested that our centerpieces be tall and possibly branches such as curly willow or pussy willow. Our colors are red, black and white so he suggested that the branches be in one of those colors. I've only seen this done in fall or winter weddings since the season matches the decor. However, we have a lot of home decor with these types of branches in our own home and LOVE how they look. Would it be appropriate for an August wedding? I'm not much of a flower person, I love flowers in gardens but not in bouquets so much. I'd take branches and/or candles any day. Also, we're trying to stay on a small wedding floral budget and hopefully I can make these centerpieces myself.

Would it be fine or would it look completely out of season? Know of any good pictures online that I could get ideas from?

Also, would guests want to as a take-home centerpiece? Not sure what we'd do with 15 centerpieces. We love these branch arrangements, but not that many!

Thanks!

Can I have curly willow or similar type branches for summer wedding?
I think that it could be done in a summer-y way :) Maybe you could add small flowers/greenery? If it is what you want, then the two of you should go for it! In my family, people always get excited about who gets to take centerpieces home, regardless of what they are lol. Even if your guests don't want them, you could try to sell them or even donate them to a place that would like them as decorations or props?

Good luck!
Reply:they would be beautiful and dead easy for you to do yourself! if your vases are clear then get clear glass beads to hold the branches in place or if you are using pottery vases you can use regular old gravel to hold the branches in place! if you are lucky enough to have 'frogs' use those!

michaels or joanns or any other big box craft shop should be able to supply you with the branches and the dollar stores should have vases! good luck and happy happy wedding!
Reply:It'll be fine. If you want them to look more summery then just take some small silk flowers and floral wire and add them to the branches so they look like a blossoming tree.

Guests may or may not decide to take home the centerpieces. If they decide not to you can always sell them or just pitch them.

I need wedding centerpiece help!!!!?

Bridesmaids are wearing fuchsia or David's bridal Azalea. A rich purple is the 2nd color. Need ideas for centerpieces other than standard floral arrangements

I need wedding centerpiece help!!!!?
we have purple hydrageas in a vase but to make it a lil different we have purple water lights at the bottom of the vase makeing the water glow purple with some shiny stones in there etc, looks really nice.
Reply:Ive seen a couple of easy and cute ideas...

Tall candles (pick colors from their dresses)

floating candles and rose petals (usually a few bucks at the florist) in a wide dishes. michaels or ac moore sell the dishes/bowls.

If its a beach theme - bowls with sand, shells, or starfish and sand dollars

Pictures of you and your husband to be from the different places youve been together (mention where its from and when)

If you have a song(s) you can print them on funky earthy grained paper (PaperSource) in a beautiful font and wrap with green wire onto bamboo.

Hope these ideas help.
Reply:You can always do candles in hurricane vases (cylinder shaped) and if you want to add color you can add sand, pebbles, glass beads, crystals, tumbled glass, ribbon, or flowers to the bottom and that will keep costs down if thats a concern. For some visual interest you can do a trio of different shapes. There are variations you can do with that such as putting limes or green apples or other fruit in the vases and adding a spray of hydrangeas to the top. Or you can put watter and flowers floating in them with a candle on the top that floats.
Reply:well, you can always do candles or the beta fish in the vases since a lot of those fish are typically colored w/purple, blue, pinkish hues. how different do you want to get? good luck!
Reply:I'm doing framed photos (in cheap frames or even pictures on those little picture holders) of my fiance and I at various ages growing up, as well as pictures of us together.... maybe also with candles in a hurricane.

If you are willing to go to Galveston go to http://www.galvestonhistory.org they rent out their historical properties relatively inexpensive, especially on weeknights.
Reply:Two suggestions for venue, check with the church you or your parents belong to they often charge members $500 to nothing for the church and the community room, which has a kitchen but your family has to clean and sweep afterwards. Another check with the historical society on renting a building or garden. Oh and three, a friends backyard can be nice for a small group with reception inside, offer to pay for a maid service. Please don't forget to pay the preacher!

How to order specific rose varieties for wedding flowers?

Hi! I'm a freelance floral designer and I would like to know what are the most popular varieties of roses that you use for weddings? I'm having a hard time ordering the specific variety that I need... for example, creamy white is so different than stark white, and there are so many different pinks!!! Also, for bouquets and boutonierres I need the blooms to stay tighter, while for centerpieces, I need blooms that blow open quickly and have a high petal count. Can you help me with an easy guide to wedding roses? Thanks in advance!!!

How to order specific rose varieties for wedding flowers?
Well what roses to use during a wedding is subjective to what the bride wants. My mom is a gardening nut and she has this book "American Rose Society Encyclopedia of Roses". It has infomation on 2000 different roses and their properties. I say buy the book and expand on what types of roses you use. Good Luck!
Reply:ask a flourist =]

jp...

i have no idea... and i've probably wasted your time -_-

i really like red roses... and stark white...

but again... ive never been married so i have no idea...

and again... sorry for wasting your time...

Floral for Turquoise, White and black wedding?

I'm wondering what flowers (colors) would look good for my centerpieces for my turquoise, white and black wedding. I don't want all white flowers... would a hot pink or orange go with it?

Please let me know what you guys think would look good together for my colors.

Floral for Turquoise, White and black wedding?
Pink stargazer lilies would be lovely.

http://www.extension.iastate.edu/newsrel...
Reply:You already have 3 colors and though another color may accent the turquoise, white and black, white and black go with everything so they are more accent colors.

I would not go with any addtional colors... but instead, something totally different from the turquoise black and white. Do something art-sy... like a single orchid plant for the centerpieces... if you can find some realistic looking fake ones, you could tie small pictures of you and the groom to the stems and have the stem of the orchid tell your story in pictures.

Or try something like doing a random mix of flowers (with guidance from the flourist, that is). For example, for your reception centerpieces, each table could have a different type of flower combination or different colors... it can help hold the table numbers etc.

Maids can have white bouquets with a touch of color... like one could have all white with 4 or 5 roses stuck in there. One could have white bouquet with coral flowers stuck into it. That way pepole get the theme that it's just the flowers that are random colors, and not everything is random.

People would get it and it could even make your bouquets less expensive and floral-y creative!

Good luck!
Reply:like a coral/or orange sunset kinda pink

Reply:in my opinion i really dont think hot pink or orange would go very well

you could try a soft, light blue, or very soft light purple

put either of those colors, or even both if you want together with a couple of white flowers and i think that would look very pretty!
Reply:Use bright pink and/or orange colored flowers and a turquoise ribbon. It's a bright blue so the bright colored flowers will be perfect. I love that color! :D
Reply:Coral or pinks would be nice.

Wedding color red and yellow july 5 any cool ideas (cheap)?
You can do something as simple as this for a centre piece. Just use a yellow and/or red (fake or real) rose instead of pink like in the photo. If you use a red rose, use a yellow candle, and if you use a yellow rose use a red candle.

Reply:I found some lovely dresses for my bridal party on ebay! Also some jewelry- like a necklace, "crown" for my hair, and earrings. ebay! And even the table favors were so reasonable! (ebay, again)

Check into flowers.com for all your floral arrangements- I was so pleased

Have a beautiful day July 5th!!!!!
Reply:dollar stores have plenty of nice things flowers vases decorations can be really nice that is the way i did it
Reply:those are really pretty colors..

http://www.bridalpeople.com/floral-cente... i like those flowers. they are done as bouquets but layed in the middle of the table as centerpieces(cheaper) instead of just laying them down you could buy small vases and set the arrangements in them with some clear stones or something in the bottom (using your bridesmaids and yourself's bridal bouquets as centerpieces is much cheaper than buying them seperate) i would also suggest that you have cream or pink tablecloths because of the colors chosen

hope i helped and i hope you have a great wedding!
Reply:I just got done working on my friend's wedding, who had a budget of next to nothing (just barely $2,000 if that). We used Oriental Trading Company, because they have good quality stuff for cheap prices. As far as flowers go, look for a flower warehouse. You can buy your own flowers and do simple arrangements on your own. Also, check out local floral shops ask them for help. Tell them what your budget is and they should be more than willing to help. They want your business, and they will work with you to try and find something you like in your price range. The big thing is of course to make your reservations for flower arrangements months in advance so the shop will be available to do the flowers for you.

Also, try the store Hobby Lobby. They have sales every week and they have really good quality wedding and floral items. I decorated for my friend's wedding reception and for streamers, some paper lanterns, glass vases, candles, and tableclothes, I definitely spent less than $100, but this was for a small reception.

One last way to save money on flowers-pick one flower that you really love that looks really nice (an orchid, a type of rose) and then build a cheaper arrangement around that.
Reply:Gerbera Daisies! Big blooms for little money!
Reply:red and yellow as in ketchup and mustard? if your wedding is in the evening, your colors should be wine merlot and gold. that's the best way to do red and yellow in the evening. having said that, target, walmart, or your local dollar store will be the cheapest way to decorate your reception.
Reply:How about big crystal bowls and vases tied with a bow and filled with lemons on apples?
Reply:Red and Yellow.. hmm, cheap idea would be to hire a clown and have McDonalds.

.
Reply:clear dove or heart confetti for around the centerpieces, silk flower heads scattered on food tables or guest tables for filler. daises are cheap and pretty. you can have special stands or vases for the bridesmaids to set their bouquets after the ceremony, then can double as decoration. round or square mirrors with 3 different size candles. also places like Michaels or hobby lobby have rentals for candelabras and arches. Also, you can place clear christmas lights under a white tablecloth like on the cake table and it adds a nice glow.
Reply:This website RULES for cheap but elegant weddings..... I used for my wedding when I was short on cash.. HERE IS THE LINK: http://www.cheap-chic-weddings.com/weddi...
Reply:It kind of depends on what kind of flowers you like! It also depends on if you want fresh flowers or fake flowers. Carnations are cheap and they come in red. Roses come in red and yellow buy can cost a lot at times! I you want to do roses but don't want to pay so much money you can mix roses with a cheaper flower like carnations. If you go with fake flowers they can be very pretty and you can decorate your house with them for years to come!
Reply:Find out what the place can provide. We bought darling dollar store candles and pretty ribbon and the place provided the Hurricane lamps. Very inexpensive and tasteful for a night wedding.
Reply:Why not tie three mason jars together (different sizes), purchase floating candles (start lookings now - after Valentines Day - red ones will be on discount), place a floating candle in each jar, and viola you have a center piece. For gifts for guests, why not use seed packets, or red and yellow spoons with Hershey hugs and kisses on the spoon, wrapped in tulle with the label - Hugs and Kisses from the Mr. and Mrs. A really simple touch was to reprint several of your engagement photos and put in dollar store frames, a couple of these at a table. You can find cheap colored frames - you could use yellow and red frames. You could also frame your invitation, or pictures throughout your dating and engagement. My husband and I did this, and so many people loved them, they still have them in their homes.
