My fiance is very into the "green" thing. It doesn't have to be COMPLETLY green, but he'd love to use something non-traditional, like stones, or sticks, or something like that. Someone even suggested fruit.
Any ideas?
I'm trying to find "natural" centerpieces for my wedding, that aren't floral.?
It depends on what time of year your wedding is taking place. If you are looking at fall time...I suggest vases of apples. Spring or summer, fresh limes, lemons, oranges....whatever fits your color and time of year. Tumbled stones in the bottom of the vases can add some visual interest, fill the container with water and float a candle for light and movement.
Reply:use some river stones in glass jars with a small tea light in the center...
Reply:smooth river stones that can be used later in a worry dish. They will remind you of your wedding and will be an outlet for stress. Keep them all in a big pretty container by your front door so when you get home each day you can leave the stress of the day with the stones by rubbing them in your hands and letting go of all the unnecessary mental clutter of life. Give a shout out in gratitude for the things you have in this life that are most precious to you afterward and your home will be happier because you and your beloved can keep the focus on the two of you and the love you share and the stress relieving bonus and beautiful memories the rocks have will last a lifetime.
Good Luck and I hope your married life to be as beautiful and special as the wedding you are planning.
Reply:Fruit is a lovey idea. Depending on your colors green apples are beautiful in a glass bowl.
I've seen people make zen rock gardens with sand and rocks (you know, with the comb marks in the sand). Or use potted plants or tree seedling that people can take home and plant in their yards (very green!)
We're using beach glass we collect from the lake near us as part of our centerpieces (glass that washes up on shore and is smooth and polished). Its green, we were cleaning up the beach and re-using it. :)
Reply:How about bamboo? They're very pretty plants, and since they're still potted and growing, they won't die afterwards like flowers, and people can take them home.
Also, I once saw a wedding show where they were making centerpieces involving round fishbowls with river rocks at the bottom and real fish swimming in them! Isn't that fun???
Reply:Grapevine can be very beautiful and you can find it growing wild on poles and fences. My sister had grapevine along the tables as kind of a runner with wine bottles (given to them by an italian restaurant, they were going to throw them out anyway) the wine bottles had a taper candle in them, and when the candle melted on the bottle it was pretty as well. Very elegant, and close to free, and made from nature or stuff that was going to be thrown out except for the candles, and you can even recycle the bottles after if you want.
Reply:Peacock feathers
Reply:love the fruit idea like a large bowl ofone color of the same fruit.
you could spray paint branches of a tree/bush and then place them in a vase/tall one
and add colored water to the vase and glue sand first to the vase by applying glue in the shape of your initials and them glueing the sand one the initials.. you could make it look really natural with pale light blue water and maybe white sprayed twigs alot of them and then the sand intials and then you could have candy around it shaped like starfish. fish etc. good luck and have fun
Reply:Fruit in glass containers looks really beautiful. Even just branches in a tall glass vase look nice. I can't wait to see his HEMP tux!!!
Reply:Choose some clear glass bowls from a craft store and fill them with fruit in your wedding colors.
Or you can make a rock centerpiece.
Reply:If you go with sticks or stones, just keep it really simple. I think the best way is to gather up a bunch of materials and just start playing with them. One idea I have is a candle , with your sticks artfully arranged around it. The candle might add a warm life to the sticks. You can use flat rocks instead of place cards by stamping the persons name on them.
Fruit is nice, from what Ive heard its not as easy as it sounds because you want to choose only the perfect-looking pieces. I saw some apples in galvanized buckets in a magazine, it looked very nice.
Hope this helps a bit!
Reply:Take a clear bowl and put some floating tealight candles inside. Then take about a handful or less of marbles in neutral colors like brown or grey. They make beautiful pieces. You can even go for a real fruit candle which also float in water in the bowl. Here's a picture: so beautiful!!!

these ideas are also simple and really affordable which is a bonus.
Reply:I love the fruit idea. How about stalks of bamboo...they have nice height. Pussywillows are also nice. Seashells, pinecones, gourds, or any combination of the above. Depends on the time of year that your wedding is going to take place. I got a lot of ideas for my wedding on the message boards of www.weddingchannel.com . It's a fabulous site with tons of brides sharing great ideas and posting pics.
Reply:Bowls of pine cones, nuts, berries, wild fruit, or all dried like potpourri. You can gather wild flowers and greens.
The dried vines make a nice look and can be decorated with greens.
You may be able to find a natural florist if you look around.
Grapes (other fruit too)
Small water fountains with rocks.
Fish bowls with colorful rocks....maybe a beta fish and people could take them home.
Check out some websites for crafters
Reply:What about the little bamboo sticks in the pretty vases with some white stone or even the clear colored glass stones.
Reply:I've seen people do river rocks in a glass fish bowl with either goldfish, bettas or candles inside.
Reply:A zen garden
Reply:Maybe almost like one of those peace garden thing. Have some stones in a vase and put in some maybe pussywillow and flowers like that. That will be floral but not prissy and still green. Like lavender or something.
Reply:what about stones and sticks in tall slender vases with betta swimming (provided that you wanted to keep them after)
Reply:Make some. My daughter did for her wedding.

Reply:I have seen stones laid out long-ways on a table with greenery and tea light candles mixed in; very chic! I thought about doing this with green orchids but it was way too expensive...
Reply:You can get a large glass bowl, put it on an equally large round mirror, fill the bowl with water and add some sort of round green leaves, maybe something resembling lily pads and then add floating candles. I think it would be beautiful and "nature like." That way, there is nothing too obstructing in the center of the table blocking the view of the person sitting across from you. I always thought large centerpieces stopped you from conversating with the person across the table.
Reply:Driftwood, bamboo, miniature bonsai trees/bushes, tiny ferns or ivy plants. (Bases covered in foil or cellophane, and could be given out after the reception). River rock and/or small stones, ect., decorations found in 'Aquarium' sections or stores.
Reply:Do you like sea shells?
If so, check out http://www.naturalsoycandles.com.au/ for some fabulous centrepiece ideas
NATURAL SOY SeaShell Candles, made with 100% soy wax
Reply:Bamboo, cacti.
Reply:what about a glass bowl with colored stones at the bottom with a colorful beta fish? you could tie a ribbon around the top and give them away at the wedding.
Reply:I've seen Lowe's centerpieces that are gorgeous. Go to the nursery and pick out a few small bushes or plants...whatever you decide you love. Take them home and trim them up to look perfect and either plant them in pretty containers or you can wrap the ugly ones they come in with fabric. If you want a little more floral just insert silk stems for fresh cut flowers as you want.
At the end of the wedding have guests take the centerpieces home and plant them. We are doing it for our wedding with tree saplings and it looks amazing. At our 5 year anniversary we are going to have a picnic under our wedding tree. :)
Reply:I've seen bonzai trees (very cool) and also pu ssy willows, which were placed in tall glass vases.
Reply:you can do tons of things with moss and branches...do tall branches and cover the base in moss surrounded by river rocks with votive candles tucked in aroudn the rocks hang more votives from the branches
large bowls filld with fruit is a great idea, its color ful and edible!
Fill tall vases with cut star anise fruit (the stuff that looks like a green star when cut) and limes, fill the vase with water and float a few candles on the top
Reply:marijuana plants... lol
