I have a very tight budget for my wedding, so i figured I could make my floral bouquets and centerpieces myself. They seem pretty easy to make. My mom says it would be too much pressure. what do you think?
Too much pressure?
you can easily do this without any drama or pressure.
if using fresh flowers: talk with local florists regarding what will be in season, how much she/he can supply and the cost.
you can then design them in advance and buy all the wires and vases necessary in advance. So all you'll have to do is have them delivered (or pick them up) and arrange them. This can be very therapeutic and help you relax instead of being stressful..
but then you risk having a time management issue, and chances of the flowers not being available when you need them, or not being "open" yet etc.
if you are using silk, plastic, dried flowers: you can buy a sample of what you are thinking off and design it at home until you are happy. then buy the lot in bulk and get to work. you can do this months in advance, and with good storage you won't have any dramas come the wedding.
my friend designed all her own centrepieces and the church flowers. we (the bridesmaids) helped her on the morning of the wedding by putting them all in vases and arranging them. it was very relaxed and fun, and they looked beautiful.

Reply:The bouquets are pretty simple, as long as you simply tie some stems together--that's a nice look anyway. If you feel you can handle it, then I say go for it. One suggestion though on the centerpieces--if you've never done it before, you might want to take a class at a craft store in flower arranging.
Reply:No pressure at all...in fact it may ease some financial pressure. I made centerpieces, bouquets, and boutiniers for my wedding. It took me about 3 hours to make everything and in total it only cost me about $75...way cheaper that going to a florist.
Reply:Well, depending on how much time you have, I would do it. I am on a tight budget also and its a six month engagement. We did the bouquets, corsages, and boutoniers. We did them all in one weekend and bought all the flowers at Hobby Lobby when there were 40% off. It ended up being 1/3 of the price, someone else was going to do it. My other suggestions is eBay has yesss-i-do seller who isn't too expensive and I was going to user her but ended up doing my own. I was also going to do the centerpieces but I found some awesome ones at Wal-Mart craft for cheap when they were closing all of our flower departments.

Reply:I think making your own center peices is an excellent way to cut cost and as long as you get things together well enough in advance it shouldnt be that stressful. I am also planning a wedding very soon and here are some simple examples I found that are inexpensive.

And this is possibly the most simple and one of my favorites.
You just gather some river rocks and place then in a vase. You could gather some branchs and if you wanted a diffrent color other then the natural browns, you could buy spray paint the same color as your wedding colors ( prolly about 2$) and put those in place of the brown ones.
Well those are just somes ideas. Candles are always create a lovely effect and can usually be found at most any dollar store . Hope this helps and that you have a beautiful wedding =]
Reply:I am doing everything myself for my wedding also. As long as you have enough willing people to help, you will be fine. Gather up your bridal party and do it together and make it a party or pre-wedding event! I am using silk flowers so that we can make everything ahead of time so that we won't be stressed or pressured. Good luck! If you are thinking of using silks, then, no, I don't think this would be too much pressure as you can get them done early.
If you are thinking of ordering wholesale flowers and putting them together the day before your wedding (as a florist would), then, yes, I do think that would be too much pressure.
Reply:I made my centerpieces and wanted to add more things to my bouquet, unfortunately I ran out of time.
Keep in mind that you need a lot of time because you have to have to have patience in case something gets messed up.
The making of the baskets, keepsakes, centerpieces and all of the other extra special touches helped me relax.
When I was glueing pearls and lace it was so distracting from the stuff that was going wrong that I had no control over.

If it's easy to do and doesn't take all day and all night then do it!
Otherwise, plan a get together party and have you and your friends do it in an assembly line fashion.
Reply:YOu know, simple is sometimes more effective than an intricate bouquet. Take a look online at floristry sites, and see what you think. I am also on a tight budget and I am considering doing my own flowers. Flowers are beautiful anyways so I am thinking of just tying a few pretty ones together simply with a ribbon.
YOu can save a lot of money doing this yourself but do remember that you will have loads of other stuff that has to be done, including getting yourself ready.....it might be easier to use silk flowers, that way you can do it with a few weeks to spare.
Reply:i made all the centerpieces for my friends wedding... they were beautiful! i got glass wide mouthed vases... glass wide, shallow fish bowls... i turned the vase upside down... hot glued the fish bowl on top... stuffed some flowers (artificial but you can use real) up the bottom of the vase.. make sure you get ones that are on branches so that they stand up.. put some colored stones in the fish bowl... with water and floating candles... and then i hot glued some flower heads around to outside of the fish bowl.. i also let some flowers float in the water.. they were gorgeous and sooooo easy to make! we made them a couple weeks before.. maybe even a month.. i dont remember...

Classy or Tacky?
My videographer also does lighting. I can't use candles at my venue...unfortunately. He suggested using these new LED light plates under my floral centerpieces, the flowers would sit on top of them and the light would shine through. They're remote controled and completely wireless, so we can change the colors throughout the night from a warm glow so a subtle pink(my wedding color) what do you think?

I've seen them done at different weddings on the WE television network. They look great! Besides that, less of a worry for a fire hazard. Haven't we all seen those shows where some part of the bride catches on fire? NOT PRETTY.

Also, make sure that if you have any decorations, they work well with the pink too. Pink decorations, for example, often don't go well with pink lighting -- too much. If you had blue decorations, though, the pink glow would give them a purplish hue when the pink lights came on. Or if you had more of the brown towns, it would give them a warm, romantic, look. It depends on what the rest of your decorations are.
But in answer to your question, it isn't tacky at all and looks very classy.

How many are opting for artifical floral arrangements? I'm a defiantly having fresh flowers for bouquets and boutonnieres, but found beautiful centerpieces made with artificial flowers. Do you think artificial flowers are tacky?

I had artificial flowers at my wedding, even my bouquet. My mother made them all using silk flowers from Michaels. They were absolutely beautiful and everyone complimented them. You couldn't even tell they were fake unless you were very close (Some people who saw my pics asked what florist I used, heheh). And we saved a ton of money! So, no, not tacky at all. :)

They are little tiny balls that expand the longer they sit in water, they can be used for centerpieces at wedding or just for floral arrangements. At Micheals you have to go in the store to get them. The Micheals here is out of the clear, and we only have one Micheals here.

How much should a small rose bridesmaid bouquet cost?
I have absolutely no idea what to expect for the cost of the florist for our wedding. I don't even want a lot of flowers, and the bridesmaid's bouquets will just be three large roses tied together with satin. How much would the average florist charge per bouquet? We don't even want floral centerpieces - just tall branches with votive candles hanging off them. I'd just like an idea before we start interviewing florists to get an idea.
Please only answer if you happen to have experience in the floral industry or have planned a wedding before. Thanks :)

Same thing with Mother's Day. Once my price is quoted and the deposit is paid, it can't go up. But each florist differs...
Anyway, to give you a number, I would't spend more than $20 per bouquet for a three-rose ensemble

You will pay double or triple for such an easy task through a florist.

Can someone give me a ballpark for wedding flowers?
My fiance and I are crunching numbers for our wedding/reception. I would want a SIMPLE bouquet, not a big flower person for me and my 4 bridesmaids. Plus we would need boutiners (sp?) for then men. If we have at the venue I want (a mansion). They have a TON of floral and candles already set up for our ceremony and reception so we would only need the flowers mentioned above. If we have it at a hotel ballroom (ceremony and reception) I would think we would have to pay for some flower or greenery for the ceremony site and the centerpieces (about 15 tables) as well. Can someone give me a ballpark figure? I'm trying to convince my fiance that the extra we pay for the mansion we would save in floral. (They will set up ALL our stuff for us at the mansion, wo we would not a florist to come, we could just pick up the flowers at Sam's)

get a hand tied bouquet of gerberas, tulips and greenery for you, your bms can have the same style but just gerberas and greenery. guys boutinners can be just carnations with a sprig of babys breath and some greenery
if your ceremony site realllly doesn't need flowers bcse it's naturally pretty- skip it.

oh don't forget to post on craigslist or your local yahoo freecycle group that you are looking for xyz type vase or glassware for your centerpieces. many new brides are happy to unload their wedding left overs for free or cheap.

Why is my florist afraid to work with these flowers?
At the end of July, my wedding arrives. I'm not a 'Bridezilla" although I ve been through three planners, 2 photographers, and now possibly, at the last moment a new Floral decorator...Why?...Because, after quite a bit of research, I settled on a designer who i thought would easily meet my expectations...I decicided on varied height centerpieces, using a array of summer blooms such as dahlias, Cockscomb, Peonies, Hydrangea, viburnum, asiatic Lilies, Garden Roses, and anything else that may be available the week of my party. The colrs are a mix of all shades of pink, orange, peach, butter yellow and chartreuse...But now my 'Hero" informs me that due to poor crops around the world recently he will have a difficult time procurring these types of blooms, in these colors...(However, he CAN get the flowers I prefer in shades of Lavender, Cinammon, Chocolate,Celedon and Hot pink) Interesting, these are the exact colors (minus the pink) that both he and my Fiancee suggested. What to do?

My ceremony flowers will be burgundy calla lillies, it's outside right on the river, so we need very little in the floral arrangements.

There is no problem using the flowers that you used for the rehearsal. Its a great way to save money!
As far as your Christmas themed wedding, you could put little christmas trees on your tables for center peices and you could also use a really pretty glass bowl and put diffrent colored ornaments in the bowl. Or nice candles which make it really elegant and cozy!
and they make favors where you personalize little pine trees as favors and gifts for your guests. its a really cute idea.

It was a bowl in the middle of the table with a floating bouquet in it with small poinsettias, green leaves and tiny cranberries floating in the water.

I am trying to decide whether or not to use fake or real flowers for some of the floral arrangements at my wedding. I definitely want a florist to make the boquets and centerpieces out of real flowers. But, for everything else, I would consider making my own arrangements with fake flowers as long as it is cheaper than getting real flowers.
Some people decide to make their own floral decorations for their wedding with fake flowers and they turn out nice. But, why not just use real flowers? Do real flowers cost signifigantly more than fake ones?

Then I bought 300$ worth of flowers from an online wholesale website. I made 3 bouquets, all the corsages, button holes from the groom and ushers etc, table arrangements and pew arrangments. I may have spent 500$ in total for all flowers silk and live and for the acsessories to assemble them. There are so many ways to save money if you have the ability and time and are willing to do some of the work yourself. By the way the arrangments I made for 500$ would have cost me 3 grand at the florist, I did price it.
Also, getting bridesmaids and moms to help do this makes for a GREAT night of laughter and memories.
Reply:Real flowers can cost between double the price to 10 times the price of silk flowers. I went with silk for my wedding. With silk you know exactly what the arangements will look like since the flowers colors will NOT vary like with realy ones. Plus you can keep them after the wedding if you want and it won't cost you an additional fee to have them dryed.
Reply:Real flowers cost SIGNIFICANTLY more than fake flowers. The average expenditure on real flowers ranges in the 700 to 1500 range, depending on size of your wedding and complexity. Fresh flowers look nice in the wedding, but they wilt and die, and you can't keep them unless you preserve/dry them. Silk flowers will always look as nice as your wedding day, if you keep them out of bright sunlight (they might fade otherwise).
Now, I looked into making my own bouquets/arrangements with silk flowers, but I knew they would not look nearly as professional. So, I went to Ebay and did some "wedding flowers" searches. There are a number of very reputable florists on Ebay that do custom orders of flowers for your wedding. I bought my silk flower arrangements for less than $200 including shipping. That included my bouquet, three bridesmaids, one toss, corsages for the Mothers, bouts for all the guys and 8 pew bows. My flowers look great and they will never wilt. Based on the average cost I mentioned above, I saved at least $500 that I can spend somewhere else. I think that was much better than blowing almost a thousand dollars on fresh flowers for a half hour ceremony and a 5 hour party. I would rather take that saved money and put it towards better quality food, better music, or save it for my honeymoon.
Reply:there are fake flowers that look real. just dont add tacky touches such as fake butterflies to the arrangement, then it looks really tacky. you can save an arm and a leg by going fake, just get good fakes!

I would personally do the opposite- have real flowers for you to hold and for your pictures and use fake flowers on the table if you have to. Fake flowers look terrible in pictures!

But you can start preparing your silks way in advance, unlike real flowers that only have a few days. Check with you local florist about your other flowers, but you may want to consider buying fresh and doing them yourself. That would save you alot of money... but you would have to do it the day or two before the wedding.

Reply:Fresh flowers are costly. Silk lasts forever, I had everything made of silk, so we could keep them forever. My bridesmaid's and everyone. I gave the centerpieces away at the wedding to friends who had really been there. But it was considerably less for silk. Also, options are endless in silk.

I may have spent 500$ in total for all flowers silk and live and for the acsessories to assemble them. There are so many ways to save money if you have the ability and time and are willing to do some of the work yourself. By the way the arrangments I made for 500$ would have cost me 3 grand at the florist, I did price it.
Also, getting bridesmaids and moms to help do this makes for a GREAT night of laughter and memories.
Reply:Real flowers can cost between double the price to 10 times the price of silk flowers. I went with silk for my wedding. With silk you know exactly what the arangements will look like since the flowers colors will NOT vary like with realy ones. Plus you can keep them after the wedding if you want and it won't cost you an additional fee to have them dryed.
Reply:Real flowers cost SIGNIFICANTLY more than fake flowers. The average expenditure on real flowers ranges in the 700 to 1500 range, depending on size of your wedding and complexity. Fresh flowers look nice in the wedding, but they wilt and die, and you can't keep them unless you preserve/dry them. Silk flowers will always look as nice as your wedding day, if you keep them out of bright sunlight (they might fade otherwise).
Now, I looked into making my own bouquets/arrangements with silk flowers, but I knew they would not look nearly as professional. So, I went to Ebay and did some "wedding flowers" searches. There are a number of very reputable florists on Ebay that do custom orders of flowers for your wedding. I bought my silk flower arrangements for less than $200 including shipping. That included my bouquet, three bridesmaids, one toss, corsages for the Mothers, bouts for all the guys and 8 pew bows. My flowers look great and they will never wilt. Based on the average cost I mentioned above, I saved at least $500 that I can spend somewhere else. I think that was much better than blowing almost a thousand dollars on fresh flowers for a half hour ceremony and a 5 hour party. I would rather take that saved money and put it towards better quality food, better music, or save it for my honeymoon.
Reply:there are fake flowers that look real. just dont add tacky touches such as fake butterflies to the arrangement, then it looks really tacky. you can save an arm and a leg by going fake, just get good fakes!
Reply:I think fake flowers are tacky and to get really nice ones they cost as much as real flowers. I also depends on the flowers you want.... like roses cost more then mums. I would personally do the opposite- have real flowers for you to hold and for your pictures and use fake flowers on the table if you have to. Fake flowers look terrible in pictures!
Reply:Definitely go with real flowers. For our wedding, we bought 750 roses for around 300 dollars. Try www.globalrose.com. They're relatively inexpensive and will ship them directly to your home. Florists are over priced. I think people use "fake" flowers because they last. That way, you can make them in advance. Personally, I hate fake flowers. They just say cheap to me.
Reply:Hi i am 21 years old and getting married very soon. i made EVERYTHING out of fake flowers cause i think its a lot cheaper and they will last a lot longer then real ones and you don't have to worry about watering them, little kids spilling them, pedals falling off, you know what i mean. my wedding is coming up in a month and my reception is in 2 months cause I'm having a destination wedding. plus if you go with fake ones you don't have to worry about a floweriest!!! i made my own bouquets out of fake flowers myself and have never done it before and it looks professional and only took me about and hour 1/2 to make it!!!! i was surprised. i even made my own boutonnieres. i shopped at discount stores and it costed me i think $20 for enough flowers to make my bouquet, throwing bouquet, and about 15 boutonnieres with flowers left over to use on the cake!!!!! i don't know if i helped but it was worth a shot!
Reply:I found that when looking for good quality fake flowers they do get quite expencive. try your local sams club, I bought beautiful red roses(real) and only paid $15 for bunches of 2 dozen
Reply:real flowers are more expensive plus with the fake flowers you can keep them for much more longer than you can real. for you anniversary you can use the centerpiece for that special anniversary dinner at home.
Reply:Silks are ususally used because they last forever. This way the bride and groom can keep or give away the flowers. However, most silks that look real cost more than real flowers. But you can start preparing your silks way in advance, unlike real flowers that only have a few days. Check with you local florist about your other flowers, but you may want to consider buying fresh and doing them yourself. That would save you alot of money... but you would have to do it the day or two before the wedding.

Reply:Fresh flowers are costly. Silk lasts forever, I had everything made of silk, so we could keep them forever. My bridesmaid's and everyone. I gave the centerpieces away at the wedding to friends who had really been there. But it was considerably less for silk. Also, options are endless in silk.
Reply:The cost difference is pretty big. I saved about $600 by combining the two that way you got the look and the smell. I had a summer wedding with Lillies as my main flower. They were real but the rest was silk. Good luck!!!!!

Yes, I really think your budget is "doable". You can get everything you want....it just may be a little different than the "traditional" wedding.
~ Two BIG ways to save is to have a SMALL wedding; say 75-100 guests MAX! The second way is to have a SMALL wedding party....just a maid of honor and best man, maybe a flower girl if you really want.
~ There are so many ways to save -- you just need to decide what is important and what you can cut. Everything from your gown to the photographer can come in cheaper if you look around and go "outside the box."
The biggest portion of a wedding budget is the reception so that is the biggest area where savings can add up! Cost compare everything! Everything is dependent on location, location, location! Personally, I do not know of any places in your city. But....look around! You will not be able to afford the "best" venue. But you can look at VFW Halls, Knights of Columbus Halls, cheaper hotels like Holiday Inn or Best Western. The hotels will be able to provide food. The other places should have kitchen facilities where you can bring in your own or have it catered.
~ Another big way to save on your reception would be to have it outside at a park or in someone's backyard.
~ Do you belong to a church? That is another option. Most churches have Fellowship Halls you can use.
Sit down with your fiance and add up the cost of a hall rental, buffet dinner, etc. and compare that to a church hall reception, backyard reception, etc. Sometimes the "outside" thing isn't feasible because you need to rent chairs, tables, tents, bring in plates, cups, silverware, etc. Again, compare. ~ Invitations: Buy the "boxed sets" from stores like Michael's, Target, and Walmart. These sell for around $25 and there are 50 in a box.
~ Flowers and centerpieces you said are covered.
~ Cake - a waste!!!! Have a small cake for you and your hubby to cut and then have cupcakes! OR, get a cake from a grocery store bakery NOT a regular bakery. This can be a substantial cost savings!
~ Photographer: Do NOT scrimp on a photographer!
~ Favors - I urge every bride to NOT do favors. No one notices or cares. This is a HUGE waste. If you really think you need something....go with a few Hershey Kisses in a mesh bag.

But honestly your wedding day goes by so fast and so much money gets spent on that day. Just to a bark yard wedding, get a white tent pretty flowers stuff like that. You can make it look beautiful you just have to be creative. And do a big BBQ. You will spend so much money of food if you do it any other way. My wedding was $80 a plate. With over 150 guests it really adds up. I wish I would have done it smaller. But whatever you do spare no cost on your photographer. When its all done and over with the pictures are the only things you have to look back on. So you want your pictures to. be amazing. I had a friend who splurged on the flowers, the dress, the cake, food, linens, etc.... And didn't think much to research a good photographer. And her pictures are awful. She cant take that back. When her and her hubby go back to reminisce on their wedding they only have these dreadful pictures to look back on. So just make that your #1 right now. And all that really matters is that you are marrying the man of your dreams. Cuz trust me on your wedding day that is all that you will see (your hubby) everything else around you will be a blur.

-buffet is much cheaper than sit down or family style dinner
-a square or rectangular cake will serve more guests for the same number of layers
-honest to god, you can have styrofoam iced for some of the layers of your cake, and slice a sheet cake in the kitchen. its ecominal, tasty, and your guests will never know the difference
- for the love, serve the top tier of the cake, i garauntee you wont want to eat it a year later
- examine the drink prefernces of your guests. an open bar is much cheaper if you serve pop, water, beer, and wine, exclusively. you can add a signature drink if you know youll need a martini!
- many venues offer reduced pricing for sunday or friday events

I found this place near by and its really beautiful! They have wedding packages that include everything! Considering i've found many place that cost about this price and its just for the rental i'm thinking this is a steal..... $8750(for 125 guests...give or take) and this is whats included.

Like if we wanted to get married on a Saturday the price went up $5.00 per person...almost everyone gets married on a Saturday. It was the Wedgewood Banquet Center...they have lots of different places, so I would caution you against working with those people. They were quite rude as well...

1. Request a tasting of ALL food (even if you don't select an item, how can you make an appropriate selection if you haven't tasted it)
2. Ask for a cake tasting as well.
3. Ask what flowers are available.
4. Ask what they consider "Well %26amp; Call Liquors, Premium Wines and Beers", it could be plastic bottles, 2 buck chuck wine and coors/budwiser beers.....
5. Ask to see, touch, feel all linens (also ask what colors available) - i say this because they could be plastic lined or just chintzy looking - just so you know what you're getting
6. Ask to see, touch, feel the plates, glasses and silverware - I say this because they could look and feel like Wal-Mart/bulk party goods - again just so you know what you're getting

Reply:Wow that is an awesome price for a wedding. I mean with all of the bells and whistles, wow. Just add in the fact that you will have to add a cake %26amp; photographer. (They may charge a cake cutting fee, etc.) Still it is a great price. I couldn't find anything near that price in my area and that would just be catering not all of the extras.
I agree with the other poster - read the fine print and get everything in writing. Really check it out. Sometimes if it looks too good to be true it is.
Reply:I would check on the quality of the items. Make sure you do a food taste test of the items you will be having. Check the quality of the invitations and is there an invitation in their selection that you like? What type of flavors and fillings do they offer for the cake? How is the cake decorated? Are the linens for the tables included? If you want to do favors or add something of your own, can you? Do you like the floral decorations that they offer? Do you want a sweet heart table and tables for the wedding party and their guests or do you want a bridal table? Do they offer the sweetheart table? What type of music is played? Can you make your own selections or is it canned? Can you have soft music playing in the background during dinner? What about dancing, is there an adequate dance floor? Just some of the many questions you want to ask them before signing a contract.

Reply:I think so, That is about $70 per guest.... actually sounds average. What about all the stuff your getting?? Are they quality or cheapy items. And the flowers....do you get to pick or are they gonna be carnations. Just depends on the extras and what they are offering you.

3. Ask what flowers are available.
4. Ask what they consider "Well %26amp; Call Liquors, Premium Wines and Beers", it could be plastic bottles, 2 buck chuck wine and coors/budwiser beers.....
5. Ask to see, touch, feel all linens (also ask what colors available) - i say this because they could be plastic lined or just chintzy looking - just so you know what you're getting
6. Ask to see, touch, feel the plates, glasses and silverware - I say this because they could look and feel like Wal-Mart/bulk party goods - again just so you know what you're getting

Reply:Wow that is an awesome price for a wedding. I mean with all of the bells and whistles, wow. Just add in the fact that you will have to add a cake %26amp; photographer. (They may charge a cake cutting fee, etc.) Still it is a great price. I couldn't find anything near that price in my area and that would just be catering not all of the extras.
I agree with the other poster - read the fine print and get everything in writing. Really check it out. Sometimes if it looks too good to be true it is.
Reply:I would check on the quality of the items. Make sure you do a food taste test of the items you will be having. Check the quality of the invitations and is there an invitation in their selection that you like? What type of flavors and fillings do they offer for the cake? How is the cake decorated? Are the linens for the tables included? If you want to do favors or add something of your own, can you? Do you like the floral decorations that they offer? Do you want a sweet heart table and tables for the wedding party and their guests or do you want a bridal table? Do they offer the sweetheart table? What type of music is played? Can you make your own selections or is it canned? Can you have soft music playing in the background during dinner? What about dancing, is there an adequate dance floor? Just some of the many questions you want to ask them before signing a contract.

Cherry Blossom Wedding?
I really love cherry blossom trees.. I want to implement these flowers into my wedding... has anybody ever done this or know of any good websites to get some great ideas from? I am thinking on each table at my reception to have a cherry blossom floral centerpiece. And the blossoms spread down the isle when I get married...

She found cherry blossom invitations, went to the craft store and found a cherry blossom stamp and made her own insert cards, RSVP cards, thank you notes.
Her centerpieces: She's using a tall cylinder from the craft store...with silk cherry blossom stems, grounded with small river rocks. Votive candles around the table. Beautiful

There are a lot of weddings this time of year because the trees are all in bloom and it makes for some gorgeous wedding pictures. I'm sure you could get a lot of ideas from the website for the festival. We have all kinds of arts and crafts dedicated to Cherry Blossoms!

That means mid-March - April depending on where you live. Consult your local florist to see if they have sources. Most people wouldn't appreciate you chopping branches off their beautiful trees...unless of course you have some on your own property! :)

Honest opinion.......centerpieces that tell our story....?
I want to have our wedding be a true celebration of 'US' and not just a party where i wear a big dress..... so i was thinking about 'US' and how we came to be an 'US'. Now, we have a long distance relationship so all the time we have together is very special and we do different things.....meet here or there or half-way between. Anyway, i was thinking about doing somthing to put on the tables that would describe us and tell our love story. Maybe somrthing typed and framed to put with a floral centerpiece or maybe i can make our centerpieces all different from the diff places we've been, all the things we like to do, or milestones in our relationship.....i could decorate like 'the trip we took to San Fransisco' and have a golden gate bridge or 'our first ValentinesDay' with the pictures he took of me making dinner for him or '500 miles to meet the family'. what do you think about something like this? would you think it's cute or creative or tacky? any ideas or suggestions?

Reply:My Friend did something that you could modify into your own thing: she used pictures of them from babies to the year they met and instead of labeling them as 1, 2, 3, etc. she labeled them as years 1975, 1976, etc.
You could do a different picture on each table representing a time or a place, and use that for your table numbering, instead of the usual numbers. Put these in frames and also frame the number/name of each table in a separate frame. You could do the 'GoldenGate Table' the 'Valentines Table' the 'First Date table' and any other special memory you share, or you could do this by year.
Also use a signature flower for all tables that means something to the both of you. You sound like a great couple and I wish you both the best.

Daytime Wedding Reception Centerpiece ideas?
Do you have any creative centerpiece ideas for a wedding reception to be held in the afternoon (inside) which doesn't include floral arrangements, because they're too expensive. Candles are wonderful but I'm not sure they'd be right for a daytime wedding.

Reply:This really depends on your personal tastes, the colors and theme of your wedding, and what time of year your wedding is taking place.
Since we are avoiding flowers, have you considered fruit? Arrangements of citrus fruit (oranges, Lemons, limes) in glass pillars with greenery (fake or real) can be striking displays for spring and summer. Red and Golden apples, or pumpkins are beautiful centerpiece additions for a fall wedding. Small real Pine trees can be perfect for Christmas/Winter weddings.
Other possibilities: Cakes! Individual cakes for each table can be used as centerpieces, and then eaten by the guests seated at the table. (Provide them with cutting instruments). This often will result in the bride and groom spending less on the huge wedding cake, and for "cake cutting" pictures, the bride and groom cut a smaller decorative cake at the Headtable.
Your Centerpiece can also be made from your favors, depending on what your favors are. My favors are going to be bags of gold foil wrapped chocolate coins, and I could easily make my centerpieces out of treasure chests, or glass bowls, filled with bags of gold coins. (Our quotes are about treasuring each other, and our card box is a white treasure chest)
If you like the idea of fishbowls with water, you can float 3 flower heads on the water, with a floating candle. You can also suspend one single flower (rose, lilly, tulip) in a tall thin glass vase..submurging the flower completely gives an impression of magnified size, through the water.
Whatever you do, please don't use live fish or any other living creature. No one wants to get stuck with an unwanted pet, They just want to be a guest at your wedding. :)
Have fun with it, dear. Don't get stressed..try to think out of the box. I've heard of people who had billiards as the theme of their wedding...and on each table they had mini pool tables. Unusual? Yes. Fun? Absolutely!

Reply:Find a Dollar store by your house.Get flower pots(the small ones) that goes with your wedding colors.Then get some tissue paper that goes.Next go to Walmart and get a 1.99 set of 6 plants that have your color.Take the flower pot,put a piece of tissue paper in and set the plant inside of it.Now crumple some tissue paper up and set the pot on ot.Color is there.Just put one in center for round tables,or 2-one on each end for long tables.Now enjoy it,try it out and have ready 2 days before the wedding...

if you get creative, make a modern art centerpiece that is wedding related.
Reply:A unique idea would be to adorn your tables with herbs rather than flowers, they would be fragrant and inexpensive.
I don't think candles are inappropriate for a daytime wedding, If you can't afford a full bouquet of flowers on each table, then place just a few heads (like roses or orchids) around a few votive candles. Simple, yet elegant!
Reply:We are having a daytime reception and the center pieces are glass bowls with floating gerber daisies, very inexpensive if you can find cheap glass bowls, and gerber daisies come in so many different colors and you only need 3 per centerpiece. we have tealights around ours just for nice mood lighting.
Reply:Can you give more details? Colors, is there a theme, what type of location? As a party designer I am chock full of ideas but without knowing a little more its hard to give one that will truly fit you. I understand your candle delimma since we are looking at an afternoon reception as well.
A very chic idea that has been catching on lately is to plant wheat grass in containers, or wheat for fall, etc. Use them as a living centerpiece and surround with river stones. For a spring wedding you can use silk flowers (cheaper than real) or you can use candy to make "flowers" and have them growing out of the grass.
Another option is to go to the nursery and pick up bedding plants in your colors like mums, pansies, whatever they have on hand. You can get an entire flat for like $12 which would do several tables and all you would need to do is transplant them into prettier containers or for a rustic look you can just cover the existing containers with burlap, nice fabric, or ribbon. After the wedding use them for your home or donate them to a park. (Note: if you donate them it's a tax deduction so you pay less at the end of the year)
You could also get lanterns. Remove the candles and instead you can put a single flower or even a butterfly (provided they have enough room to flutter a bit and you provide air supply and a few leaves or something to munch on, then release into wild afterwards)

Reply:This really depends on your personal tastes, the colors and theme of your wedding, and what time of year your wedding is taking place.
Since we are avoiding flowers, have you considered fruit? Arrangements of citrus fruit (oranges, Lemons, limes) in glass pillars with greenery (fake or real) can be striking displays for spring and summer. Red and Golden apples, or pumpkins are beautiful centerpiece additions for a fall wedding. Small real Pine trees can be perfect for Christmas/Winter weddings.
Other possibilities: Cakes! Individual cakes for each table can be used as centerpieces, and then eaten by the guests seated at the table. (Provide them with cutting instruments). This often will result in the bride and groom spending less on the huge wedding cake, and for "cake cutting" pictures, the bride and groom cut a smaller decorative cake at the Headtable.
Your Centerpiece can also be made from your favors, depending on what your favors are. My favors are going to be bags of gold foil wrapped chocolate coins, and I could easily make my centerpieces out of treasure chests, or glass bowls, filled with bags of gold coins. (Our quotes are about treasuring each other, and our card box is a white treasure chest)
If you like the idea of fishbowls with water, you can float 3 flower heads on the water, with a floating candle. You can also suspend one single flower (rose, lilly, tulip) in a tall thin glass vase..submurging the flower completely gives an impression of magnified size, through the water.
Whatever you do, please don't use live fish or any other living creature. No one wants to get stuck with an unwanted pet, They just want to be a guest at your wedding. :)
Have fun with it, dear. Don't get stressed..try to think out of the box. I've heard of people who had billiards as the theme of their wedding...and on each table they had mini pool tables. Unusual? Yes. Fun? Absolutely!

Reply:Can you give more details? Colors, is there a theme, what type of location? As a party designer I am chock full of ideas but without knowing a little more its hard to give one that will truly fit you. I understand your candle delimma since we are looking at an afternoon reception as well.
A very chic idea that has been catching on lately is to plant wheat grass in containers, or wheat for fall, etc. Use them as a living centerpiece and surround with river stones. For a spring wedding you can use silk flowers (cheaper than real) or you can use candy to make "flowers" and have them growing out of the grass.
Another option is to go to the nursery and pick up bedding plants in your colors like mums, pansies, whatever they have on hand. You can get an entire flat for like $12 which would do several tables and all you would need to do is transplant them into prettier containers or for a rustic look you can just cover the existing containers with burlap, nice fabric, or ribbon. After the wedding use them for your home or donate them to a park. (Note: if you donate them it's a tax deduction so you pay less at the end of the year)
You could also get lanterns. Remove the candles and instead you can put a single flower or even a butterfly (provided they have enough room to flutter a bit and you provide air supply and a few leaves or something to munch on, then release into wild afterwards)

Many orchids have fuschia in them. ( even silk ones) find some that have the fuschia and put them and small oranges or tangerines in clear vases. If you place them in just right, the flowers would hide the full whole oranges, yet the colors would be great together. You can get clear vases at the dollar store!

Can I have curly willow or similar type branches for summer wedding?
My fiance requested that our centerpieces be tall and possibly branches such as curly willow or pussy willow. Our colors are red, black and white so he suggested that the branches be in one of those colors. I've only seen this done in fall or winter weddings since the season matches the decor. However, we have a lot of home decor with these types of branches in our own home and LOVE how they look. Would it be appropriate for an August wedding? I'm not much of a flower person, I love flowers in gardens but not in bouquets so much. I'd take branches and/or candles any day. Also, we're trying to stay on a small wedding floral budget and hopefully I can make these centerpieces myself.
Would it be fine or would it look completely out of season? Know of any good pictures online that I could get ideas from?
Also, would guests want to as a take-home centerpiece? Not sure what we'd do with 15 centerpieces. We love these branch arrangements, but not that many!

For some visual interest you can do a trio of different shapes. There are variations you can do with that such as putting limes or green apples or other fruit in the vases and adding a spray of hydrangeas to the top. Or you can put watter and flowers floating in them with a candle on the top that floats.

Ok so I found a few parks and such and I found one actual venue t hat is relatively cheap I dont want it to look cheap we will do our own decorating any we are cooking the food, making floral arrangements centerpieces, I don't mind all that I just dont really want to spend over 3k on this wedding. I found a great bakery that is affordable, nice affordable dress, etc. just don't want to really spend over 1500 on a venue. (Wedding and Reception sight)

How to order specific rose varieties for wedding flowers?
Hi! I'm a freelance floral designer and I would like to know what are the most popular varieties of roses that you use for weddings? I'm having a hard time ordering the specific variety that I need... for example, creamy white is so different than stark white, and there are so many different pinks!!! Also, for bouquets and boutonierres I need the blooms to stay tighter, while for centerpieces, I need blooms that blow open quickly and have a high petal count. Floral for Turquoise, White and black wedding?

Maids can have white bouquets with a touch of color... like one could have all white with 4 or 5 roses stuck in there. One could have white bouquet with coral flowers stuck into it. That way pepole get the theme that it's just the flowers that are random colors, and not everything is random.
People would get it and it could even make your bouquets less expensive and floral-y creative!

you could try a soft, light blue, or very soft light purple
put either of those colors, or even both if you want together with a couple of white flowers and i think that would look very pretty!

Maids can have white bouquets with a touch of color... like one could have all white with 4 or 5 roses stuck in there. One could have white bouquet with coral flowers stuck into it. That way pepole get the theme that it's just the flowers that are random colors, and not everything is random.
People would get it and it could even make your bouquets less expensive and floral-y creative!

you could try a soft, light blue, or very soft light purple
put either of those colors, or even both if you want together with a couple of white flowers and i think that would look very pretty!
Reply:Use bright pink and/or orange colored flowers and a turquoise ribbon. It's a bright blue so the bright colored flowers will be perfect. I love that color! :D

my wedding is july 5 colors red and yellow , evening wedding with rec to follow , but it will al be done in the same room (to say) i rented is called a memorial home with the main room very big tables will have to be decorated allready to go since recption is following just though of any cool cheap ideas to do , floral arrangements or neat centerpieces or anything really thansk for the help

You can do something as simple as this for a centre piece. Just use a yellow and/or red (fake or real) rose instead of pink like in the photo. If you use a red rose, use a yellow candle, and if you use a yellow rose use a red candle.

Reply:I found some lovely dresses for my bridal party on ebay! Also some jewelry- like a necklace, "crown" for my hair, and earrings. ebay! And even the table favors were so reasonable! (ebay, again)

http://www.bridalpeople.com/floral-cente... i like those flowers. they are done as bouquets but layed in the middle of the table as centerpieces(cheaper) instead of just laying them down you could buy small vases and set the arrangements in them with some clear stones or something in the bottom (using your bridesmaids and yourself's bridal bouquets as centerpieces is much cheaper than buying them seperate) i would also suggest that you have cream or pink tablecloths because of the colors chosen

Reply:I just got done working on my friend's wedding, who had a budget of next to nothing (just barely $2,000 if that). We used Oriental Trading Company, because they have good quality stuff for cheap prices. As far as flowers go, look for a flower warehouse. You can buy your own flowers and do simple arrangements on your own. Also, check out local floral shops ask them for help. Tell them what your budget is and they should be more than willing to help. They want your business, and they will work with you to try and find something you like in your price range. The big thing is of course to make your reservations for flower arrangements months in advance so the shop will be available to do the flowers for you.
Also, try the store Hobby Lobby. They have sales every week and they have really good quality wedding and floral items. I decorated for my friend's wedding reception and for streamers, some paper lanterns, glass vases, candles, and tableclothes, I definitely spent less than $100, but this was for a small reception.
One last way to save money on flowers-pick one flower that you really love that looks really nice (an orchid, a type of rose) and then build a cheaper arrangement around that.

Also, you can place clear christmas lights under a white tablecloth like on the cake table and it adds a nice glow.

Reply:It kind of depends on what kind of flowers you like! It also depends on if you want fresh flowers or fake flowers. Carnations are cheap and they come in red. Roses come in red and yellow buy can cost a lot at times! I you want to do roses but don't want to pay so much money you can mix roses with a cheaper flower like carnations. If you go with fake flowers they can be very pretty and you can decorate your house with them for years to come!

For gifts for guests, why not use seed packets, or red and yellow spoons with Hershey hugs and kisses on the spoon, wrapped in tulle with the label - Hugs and Kisses from the Mr. and Mrs. A really simple touch was to reprint several of your engagement photos and put in dollar store frames, a couple of these at a table. You can find cheap colored frames - you could use yellow and red frames. You could also frame your invitation, or pictures throughout your dating and engagement. My husband and I did this, and so many people loved them, they still have them in their homes.
